Chapter 18 - Impatience is a True Virtue

"My lord, we've spotted a creature capable of speech near the town." Reported a guard as he knelt before the baron.

"What!" That's impossible, a creature of this forest simply cannot reach tier three." Outraged the baron.

"I don't know how it happend, but somehow a creature of such power has arisen." Muttered the guard.

"This is grave news, you must notify the capital at once." Commanded the baron as he grasped the throat of a servant.

"I shall heed to your order, do you want anything else sire." Whimpered the gaurd as he watched the servant's throat get crushed.

"What you should have said is, do you NEED anything else sire!" Roared the baron, crushing the servant's head in the process.

"I'm extremely sorry, your greatness, my tongue slipped." Whined the guard bowing so lowly that he hit the ground.

"Make sure it doesn't happen again or you'll regret it, do you have anything else to report SLAVE!" Bellowed the baron.

"The section leader made a deal with the the creature, it'll be coming to meet you soon." Croaked the guard as he saw the baron's face contorted with rage.

"AND YOU DIDN'T SAY THAT FIRST, get the section leader in here now!" Hollered the baron, his face turning as red as blood.

"Yes your highness, I will do so immediately." Cried the guard as he ran out of the structure.

~~~
"Why are they taking so long? I asked them to wait an hour, not four!" Grumbled Imogen.
 "I've yet to grasp the concept of patience and that makes the wait twice as painful." Remarked Imogen.
 "I guess I could just head to town by myself, it's not like they'd recognize me." Realized Imogen.
"I think that I'll do that actually, that guy can go fu- I mean, he can go... sex himself?" Questioned Imogem.
 "I should start walking now, I think the village is over to the left." Decided Imogen as she started her trek to the human village.
~~~

 "Sorry I'm late I was held up by traf-" Lied the head guard, well tried to lie; but he stopped when he noticed that Imogen wasn't there.

 "Where the fuck did that tick go, if I don't find it soon the baron is going to have my head." Distressed the guard.

 "I'm better off running to the next town to pray for my life, I think I'll do that actually; that tick can go fuck itself." Yelled the guard not realizing the irony of what just happened.

~~~
 "Is this the town? It's more advanced than I thought it would be." Proclaimed Imogen as she looked up at the spotless metal wall.
"Hey, are you going to come in or just stare off into the void." Yelled a human guarding the gate.
"Oh sorry, I was just admiring the sound architecture of this wall." Answered Imogen as she pointed to the wall.
"Well if you're done now, pay the entry fee and you can come inside." Said the guard looking at her strangely.
"What's the entry fee? I came from a different town so things here are new to me." Replied Imogen.
"Every town has the same entry fee, except the royal city of course; you're not from the Rural Kingdom are you?" Asked the guard suspiciously.
"What's the Rural Kingdom, I've never heard of it." Responded Imogen innocently.
"Did someone hit you on the head or something, no matter where you live; you couldn't have not heard about the most glorious kingdom out of the five great kingdoms." Enquired the man.
"Oh yeah!" "I remember now, could you let me in this time please." Begged Imogen.
"You have to pay the entry fee of twenty Copper Bases first or you're out of luck."
"I actually don't have any money, but if you let me in now; I'll pay you back later." Suggested Imogen.
"Sorry kid, no can do; I'm already on thin ice with the baron." Apologised the guard.
"Just let her in, Henry, she's only a youngin' after all." Stated another guard.
"I guess I could, but only this one time; so don't be coming here thinking you have free access." Compromised Henry.
"Thank you, I really appreciate it." Said Imogen in a polite tone.
"You're welcome, but don't tell no one about this; I don't want to lose my job after all." Demanded Henry as he grabbed her on the arm.
"I won't, could you let go of my arm now; it kind of hurts." Lied Imogen.
"Sure, just don't cause any trouble and we'll be just dandy." Said Henry as he let go of her arm.
~~~

"Well that was weird, I also need to add getting money to my bucket list." Groaned Imogen.

"Get your top quality items here, we have all sorts of equipment and artifacts here." Offered the man as a crowd grew around him.

 Imogen ignored him and went into a building that had an old rusted sign on it, it had the words 'Adventurer's Guild' engraved onto it.

As Imogen walked in she could see a couple of people standing around and talking to the receptionists. As a spot opened up she went over and started talking to the receptionist.

"Do you know a quick way to earn money, I can do all sorts of work." Inquired Imogen nervously.

"Well the best way to earn money would be to become an Adventurer, not many high paying jobs are as easy to qualify for other than becoming an Adventurer.

"Well then, how do you qualify; I'd like to join." Asked Imogen, looking around at the brown walls.

"All you have to do is stare into the guildmaster's eyes for ten seconds, sounds easy right." Grinned the receptionist.

"Okay, so where is he?" Rejoiced Imogen.

"I'll call him down, just wait here for now." Requested the receptionist.

~~~
I didn't even want to go in here, but when I saw the sign I just couldn't resist." Thought Imogen.
 "I guess this is a pretty easy way to level up and get money at the same time, It'll help me pay for my halberd lessons." Concluded Imogen.
 "Oh, they're back already; I guess I need to get ready." Sneered Imogen.
~~~

"Okay we're back, if you don't mind; could you stand in the center of the room." Giggled the receptionist.

As Imogen stepped into the center of the room, a dwarf-like man walked up to her; an evil aura wrapped around him, this guy was wicked for sure.

"All you have to do is stare into his eyes for ten seconds, surely you can handle that." Assured the receptionist as a group of people gathered.

"As Imogen looked down into his eyes, she felt an overwhelming amount of pressure weighing down on her. When that happened, the people around her started to talk.

"Poor lass, she didn't even know what she was signing up for." Commented a buff looking man.

"And here I was hoping that we'd get a new member today, I guess I was wrong." Said an old man.

"She might be able to do it, actually never mind." Decided a middle aged woman.

The seven seconds that had already passed felt like eons to Imogen, the pressure seemed to be getting worse and worse every second. When the ten seconds did end all was silent, the receptionist looked at Imogen amazed.

"It looks like you passed, girl. I didn't expect you to make it." Replied the dwarf man honestly.

 "I guess I should follow my own advice, never underestimate anything." Mused the dwarf-like man.

 "The name's Egor by the way, pleased to make your acquaintance." Said Egor as he held out his hand.

"Nice to meet you too Egor, my name's Imogen. Responded Imogen as she shook his hand.

"Okay the show's over folks, get back to what you were doing." Shouted the Egor.

 "My guess is that you don't know how to use a weapon, am I right?" Questioned Egor.

"How did you know, I never said anything about it." Wondered Imogen.

 "You've been holding that halberd the entire time you've been in here, any warrior with common sense gets a sheath; not to mention you're holding it wrongly." Said Egor amused.

 "Do you know anyone who could teach me? I don't have any money right now; but I'm sure I'll get some soon." Proposed Imogen

 "Well I would be lying if I said that I didn't want to train you, no one your age has ever passed my test; the older ones already knew how to wield a weapon properly when they walked in here." Admitted Egor.

 "If you accept, you could be my first disciple." Offered Egor.

"Your first disciple, you mean you've never taken on a student before." Asked Imogen confused.

"I never thought it necessary until recently and if you haven't noticed, I run this guild day and night; I don't have time to go look for decent disciples." Explained Egor.

"That makes sense, well I obviously accept; when do I start." Inquired Imogen.

"The same time as when you start being an Adventurer, tomorrow; the exact moment when you get here." Replied Egor devilishly.
