Chapter 16 - "You flatter me, Mother"

Morning came again, bright and shiny in Urankia Empire. The castle was already bustling with works and the cleaning of the hall which was used yesterday night.

The Princess was already dressed and ready for the day. She held her light green dress which flowed to the floor with so much elegance that male officials passing by couldn't take their eyes off her.

A small smile was on her face as she strode down the hall with her haughty nose held up high in pride.

The first thing Princess Divale heard when she woke this morning was that her presence has been called for by her parents, The Emperor and Empress, in the royal courtroom after breakfast.

With the help of Lady Precelle, the Princess got ready and after having a light meal, she headed for the royal courtroom.

When she reached the double doors, she raised her chin by an inch and the guard outside cleared his throat to announce her presence.

"Crown Princess Divale has arrived, Your Grand Majesty!" the guard howled in a loud voice.

"Send her in," the Princess heard her father's approval.

In a swift movement, the doors were each opened by the guards outside and Princess Divale stepped into the courtroom.

"Pleasant Morning, My King. Pleasant Morning, My Queen," the Princess bowed.

At the royal courtroom, the King and Queen were seated on their elevated throne with their crowns shining brightly as their smiles of pride for their daughter.

"Pleasant morning indeed, Princess Divale. Tell me, how was your night, my dear?" Empress Topal smiled.

"I had a delightful night, Mother, and you?" the Princess asked politely.

"Oh, your father and I could hardly sleep last night after what we witnessed," the Empress answered.

"Pardon me? Was there perhaps a problem?" Princess Divale asked.

"Of course not, we were filled with joy when we saw how our little girl has grown up to be such a beautiful and mature vampiress. Our hearts were filled with joy because of you," the Queen smiled.

"You flatter me, Mother" the Princess smiled shyly.

"There is no flatter in what the Queen has said. Divale, you have brought our dreams to reality. Unlike your brothers who none of them are sufficient to rule," the Emperor scoffed under his breath.

"You showed everyone that you are more than perfect, you proved to them that you are the true heir to the throne," the Emperor's eyes were nearly filled with tears.

"Is that why you called me here this morning, to make me cry at first light, Father?" the Princess wiped her eyes.

To her, seeing her parent's happiness meant the world and she was glad to see that it was because of her.

"Of course not, don't mind your father," the Queen smiled and patted her husband's shoulder.

"We called you to know what you think about the suitors," the Queen said.

"I only gave you time to make a decision because I trust you more than anything and I know you won't disappoint so tell me, which of those vampires has impressed the Crown Princess of Urankia?" the Empress asked.

~NONE!!~

The Princess snapped in her head. How was she supposed to tell her parents that she hadn't taken a liking to any of the suitors chosen for her?

In fact, they all gave her a splitting headache that merely thinking of them made her want to collapse.

"There were all so nice that I don't have a particular one in mind," the Princess answered politely with a tight-lipped smile.

`Quite the contrary~ she snorted.

"Aww, my dear!" the Queen covered her mouth in awe.

"We are glad you like them all but surely, you can't three kings in the empire," the Emperor laughed.

"Oh, Terre, don't tease our daughter. Can't you see she is feeling shy to say such things in front of her old parents?" the Empress scolded her husband.

"Oh, she is blushing. Look at how red her cheeks are," the Emperor roared with laughter.

"Terre!!" the Queen whined.

"You really do enjoy teasing me, father. Weren't you as shy as me when you proposed to Mother?" the Princess smirked when her father suddenly stopped laughing and looked at his wife.

"She asked for a bedtime story," that was her response.

"Enough of that. Actually, we asked for you because there will an archery competition between the three suitors and you have to be present as well," the Emperor said.

"As you wish, Father. I will be there," the Princess answered.

"Come with us now, it's about starting," the Empress said as she got up from the chair.

The King and Queen got down from their throne and accompanied by a few guards, the Princess set off with her parents to watch the suitors compete against one another.

When they got to the terrace of the palace, seats were prepared under a canopy for them and they sat the competition was just about starting.

The wide ground could be seen clearly from the terrace and arrows, bows, target practice were all placed on the grounds.

One by one, the suitors stepped into the grounds as they were applauded by a few officials who had set down to watch the game.

The Princess squinted her eyes. She did it again and rubbed off any dirt from her eyes so she could confirm what she was seeing.

When she realized it was true, a dashing smile spread onto her lips and she felt like she had just won a gamble.

At the middle of the grounds was a shirtless, tanned werewolf.

Her werewolf.

Her Cursed Beast.
