Chapter 3 - First Floor: Evolution

The eerie blue light shone on Raki as he opened his eyes. A pink tongue swept across his face, causing him to groan in annoyance as he sat up.

"Aah..."

Raki's face showed a hint of relaxation as he yawned, his ice blue eyes limpid and watery as the morning air blew past him.

He rubbed his puppy's head as he picked up his dagger, observing his surroundings warily. Several scars and bloodstains adorned his clothes and body, a result of the abyssal beasts that attacked him last night.

Thankfully, his had warned him beforehand, allowing him to set up an ambush in preparation. If not, he would have become a cold corpse.

The rewards he gained were well worth the risk, especially the new skills he had gained.

A string of words under his status caught his attention.

"Proceed."

The words faded quickly as Raki's surroundings turned black. A murky white light surrounded him as his eyes reopened, a chill running down his back as he encountered an aura all too familiar.

"It's you."

His puppy yipped in surprise as a purple-blue cocoon surrounded her owner. The smell of the cocoon caused her to wrinkle her nose, a trace of disgust emerging in her eyes.

Raki's eyes widened as he faced a boy. An unfamiliar emotion emerged from the depths of his heart as he observed the black haired child standing in front of him.

Something surged within him, his ice-blue eyes filling with rage as he watched this figure. His heart stirred once more, the milky white light surrounding them forcing him to remember a scene all too familiar.

"I'll kill you."

Raki's monotone voice was tinted with rage as he stared down his opponent.

The black haired boy sighed, holding up his hand as a dagger appeared in the air. In one smooth motion, the boy swiped the blade out of the air, his mouth arcing into a bone chilling smile.

"We'll have to see about that."

The puppy sighed lazily as it rolled around on the floor, her eyes filled with boredom. A strange scent entered her nose, causing her to sneeze.

Her ears perked up as the puppy began to sniff the air.

'Something's off.'

The instinct to run began a struggle with her loyalty to her owner as she watched the dark forests warily, lowering her body into the purple grass.

Raki's cold eyes analyzed his surroundings as his opponent clashed with him, sparks flying into the air as he was pushed back.

'I can't win.'

A conclusion formed in Raki's mind as he continued to fight with his opponent.

"Hehehe~! Seems like you're as powerless as always, Raki~!"

A kick landed on his chest as Raki let out a breath, sliding backwards as the black haired boy rushed at him.

"You haven't improved either, Kaito."

Kaito grinned, his snake-green eyes revealing a hint of excitement.

"You're the same as always~! I really couldn't help myself the last time we met~! Oh my, I seem to have forgotten something~? Looks like we're missing someone~!"

As Kaito finished speaking, a chill ran down his spine. His eyes widened as he faced Raki, a sense of unease beginning to sprout within him.

Raki's eyes were emotionless as he watched Kaito, his face cold and expressionless.

'Tch...not good. The other one's come out...'

Kaito quickly backed off as they observed each other.

A flash of pale blue light caused Kaito to wince as Raki appeared in front of him.

Puk!

The steel dagger in Raki's hands stabbed into Kaito's heart.

"Kuh-"

Kaito smirked as he coughed out a pool of blood, his gaze meeting with Raki's.

Two pairs of eyes, one green, the other blue, met each other.

A small sigh escaped Raki's lips.

"You're the same as always..."

Kaito reached out and grabbed Raki's hand, his eyes turning soft.

"Remember what you came here for...promise me that you'll-"

Kaito's hand slowly fell to the floor as his body went limp.

Raki closed his former friend's eyes as the milky white light enveloped the body in a cocoon.

As the space around him crumbled, Raki smiled.

"I know, Kaito. I'll find your brother..."

"And kill him."
