Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Depths of the Cult

The next day had come and Subaru made preparations to go into the door he had seen before he died in the first loop.

He was about to leave the stable when his friends and fellow party members stopped him before he left.

"Subaru, is something going on?"

"What? Of course not! I'm just going to work a little earlier."

"We know how you've asked all of us strange questions. Stuff about cults, and stuff like that."

"W-Well…Um…I'm sorry but I can't say anything right now! I just kind of have to leave now…"

"Okay. Will you tell us after you're done with whatever you're doing?"

"Yeah…Once it's all over I'll tell you all. I'll make sure of it…"

They let Subaru leave the stable and he headed over to the work site. He had already mentally prepared for the severe chest pain he would get the moment he stepped in the tays for mesite.

'…Wait…What's the chance this is trap to kill me again like last time…Well I guess the first death wasn't a trap…But I don't exactly have anything else to do to prep for this…Just think of it as going into a boss arena but forgetting to save before the cutscene starts so you'll lose all your data…'

Subaru returned to the work site and the pain returned to his chest but he had been slowly growing used to it. At least to a point where he can still move even if the pain was enough to the point he wanted to stab himself.

The door was where it was before. The time had come for him to enter the depths of the cult and find out more of whoever it was that gave him his power to return by death.

Subaru entered the mist that covered the entrance of the the door and at first couldn't see anything. Just a mix of black and purple. After continuing to walk straight through the nothingness that surrounded him he had reached a room with no exit.

"Huh? Hey!"

There was nothing in sight. Just an empty stone room. He started banging on the wall he came from calling for anyone who could here him.

"So you've finally come. You think someone can hear you through these walls?"

Subaru turned around to be greeted by a short woman. She wore dark clothing all over her body making the only visible parts of her skin her face.

"You should be glad it's me greeting you, had he been here he would have just been pouring over in jealousy and probably killed you while you had no way out. Me, on the other hand, am completely neutral on the matter. I just care if you're entertaining to me."

She glared upwards at Subaru.

"But you passed that part!" She clasped her hands together and a doorway opened up. "You should get going. They're all waiting for you."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"It's more fun if you see everything without any spoilers."

She vanished into the wall behind her leaving Subaru alone.

'I guess I have to go either way.'

He walked through the doorway that had been opened by the girl. It was pitch dark with no end in sight. After walking for only a short while he saw light appear in front of him. When he came out there was a pathway leading to a central island with what looked like an elevated stone bed.

He walked over to it wondering where he ended up. It was strangely quite as if all sounds were being absorbed around him. He looked upon the stone bed and saw dried blood upon it.

'The hell?!'

Torches around the room lit up revealing stands full of people adorned in black robes. The sound dead room suddenly erupted in cheering and screaming.

"He has finally come! The one chosen by our goddess!"

The crowd grew louder after a man came out from a balcony to the side of Subaru. He turned to look at the man who seemed to be their announcer.

He was well built, bald and overall a very large guy. He clearly wasn't afraid to show himself off to people unlike the woman before.

"I am Kaine, Natsuki Subaru! Do you know why you're here?"

"N-No! Why is this happening?! What do I have to do with this whole thing?!"

"You are the key to the vessel my child! Bring her out Majo!"

A gate arose from the opposite end of where Subaru had entered from. A girl wearing familiar clothing with a bag over her head was being dragged into the chamber. The man dragging her was the one who had originally given him the dagger to kill one of his friends.

'So his name's Majo? Some strange name if I say.'

"Geez! Why do I have to do this for this stupidly idiotic man?! But I suppose this is how things must be if I am to devote myself to her outstandingly blinding, beautiful goddess!"

He ripped the bag off her head and threw her onto the stone island with Subaru.

"Yunyun!"

He ran over to her to make sure she was okay. She appeared to be unconscious.

'Shit! Why'd you get dragged in too?!'

The walkways that led to the island retracted into the stone leaving no way off the island.

"Hey! Wake up Yunyun!"

"Now!" Kaine began announcing again. "It is time for our goddess to return to us with the vessel we have provided to kill the key!"

"Eh?! Yunyun!"

Her eyes opened but were completely void of life. She pulled out a dagger and attempted to stab Subaru. He was grazed by the blade leaving a bit of blood leaving his body.

"Yunyun! What are you doing?!"

She lunged in for another attack and fell over.

'Uh…I guess she still is Yunyun in the physical sense…'

He quickly swiped the knife away from Yunyun and attempted to restrain her. She was struggling to get out of Subaru's grip when she pulled out another blade from under her skirt.

'Shit! She had a hidden weapon?!'

He tried to roll away but the blade had sliced across his stomach making him squirm in pain.

'Dammit…' He coughed up blood and tried to stand back up. "Why's this happening? Announcer guy! Tell me!"

Subaru was slowly losing strength as she continued to pursue him around the small platform they were trapped on. Kaine, the announcer began talking, or rather yelling to Subaru.

"You wish to know why you're in this? You are the key! You are the blood that will help our goddess return to this land through the vessel! That girl!"

"I don't give a crap about your goddess! Make Yunyu-" He began to blackout from the blood loss. The wound only grew with each dodge ripping his flesh further and further. The blood he had lost coated him from the waist down and he was at the end of this life.

He began to fall and rolled off the platform. Before blacking out he could feel a hand attempting to pull him back up. With his last sight he could see that the life in one of Yunyun's eyes had come back and that she was crying before he fell to his death.

Once again greeted by a familiar ceiling.
