It was the next day and Subaru was waiting for Kazuma and Aqua to appear. It was taking some time since he couldn't remember the exact time that they had appeared so he left early in the morning so he could find them no matter what.
"When are they gonna show up? Did Kazuma not die this time?"
He continued waiting and started to play around with a rock while waiting. After nearly an hour of waiting he could hear familiar voices taking in front of him. He looked up from his rock to see Kazuma and Aqua fighting with each other again.
"Jeez, of your so upset with being here just go back to your chamber or whatever."
"Don't you understand?! I can't get home!"
Aqua was once again wailing and crying while gripping onto Kazuma, it nearly brought a tear to Subaru's eye. He quickly walked over again and went through the same routine as before.
"Do you need any help?"
"Hm? Woah, another tracksuit…Wait…Wasn't I meant to be some great hero or something?! Why is another guy from my world here?!"
"Yeah, I was actually reincarnated just yesterday by Aqua."
"So what you're saying is that I'm not going to be some over powered isekai protagonist who gets a harem and horny as hell for the MC?"
"I sort of get what you meant by that but I also don't really know how you got that from this interaction. But anyway, I'm Natsuki Subaru! Who are you?"
"Satou Kazuma. It's a bummer that I'm not really some godly hero or something but I'm still in a fantasy world so I guess my death wasn't completely horrible…Never ask about my death."
"I won't! I'm sure you have your reasons just like I have mine. If you need any help with anything you can ask me! I am quite well versed in this place after some stuff happened that I guess you could say extended my time of gaining knowledge."
Aqua finally stopped whining in the background of their conversation and stared at Subaru with a sort of face that said "You don't seem trustable."
"Are you sure we can trust you? You seem to have quite a bit of darkness surrounding you."
"Eh?"
"I don't know, normally that means you committed some kind of sin, this darkness shows that it's pretty bad and because of that I can't trust you. I am goddess so I must listen to the rules, I can always purify you but it will cost you to go without your memories for the rest of your life."
"No no! I'm fine! I never committed a sin…Wait could that count?"
"Could what count?"
Aqua was getting into Subaru's personal space and making a "Go on" kind of face.
"No, I don't think that counts. I'm completely trustworthy, I swear it!"
""Hmmmm…"
Aqua was inspecting him very closely and after awhile appeared to reach a result.
"It makes me think of her for some reason but there's no way to judge you here. I would have to be in a specific place to view your memories to see if you're a safe person to be around…Kazuma!" She jumped towards Kazuma. "You said you're lucky, you decide if we go with him or not."
"Hmmm…One question."
"Go on."
"Do like manga or anime or video games?"
"Yes!"
"Okay he's clear, we're going with him."
Aqua made a baffled face and started shaking Kazuma around while yelling at him.
"Yo I can't decide something like this with a question like that! At least ask something better to base your choice on!"
"No, he's safe. We are brothers in arms now so I'm going with him."
"Wait, wait! Stop by order of a goddess!"
Kazuma was pushing Subaru away while gleefully leaving Aqua behind. Subaru looked back with a worried face while trying to think of a way to fix this situation.
"So what now?"
'….This is not how I wanted things to go!'
They were in the adventurer's guild except the new party they had formed no longer had Aqua in it. Subaru was thinking of how to bring Aqua back but couldn't think of a way to persuade Kazuma to let her into the party. He sighed and decided to ask out right.
"Don't you think it would be a good idea to have a goddess in our party? She could prove to be useful."
"Eh…You saw how she was acting back there, she's nothing more then a useless goddess. No need for her."
"…"
Subaru tried to think through his options.
'I guess without Aqua I could avoid the whole Toad situation and probably save some money that I could put to more defense so when the undead show up I could maybe get out alive. That also means I'd have one less person to worry about during the attack so it seems like it'd be a win win scenario since she also wouldn't be out into harms way…I guess it would overall be better to go on without her but I could still use Megumin-but wait she can't move after casting a spell…I guess it is long range so get her to fire it off as a long distance shot. Okay! I think I have a plan!'
"Subaru?"
"Ah sorry I was thinking of what to do and I think I thought of something."
"What is it?"
"We should look for more party members, specifically those in higher classes. We can't defend ourselves that well since we have lower classes so it would be helpful to have someone of that stature."
"That is true, but will a high rank really want to join our party?"
"I'm sure there's someone out there wanting to be a part of anyone's party."
"I guess we'll put something on the board then, wait and get to our first true adventure later."
"I whole heartedly agree."
Subaru was putting his new plan in action to keep himself alive and this time he decided to discard Aqua as she was nothing more then a truly useless goddess that made his goal of staying alive even harder. Now all he had to do was wait for a certain hungry explosive 13 year old to want to join their party.
