I took Jelly to Doc's clinic in a hurry. When we got there, she was immediately put in a hospital bed in a make shift ward with an IV drip on her arm. She was having chills. Doc had given her some injections through her IV and left to get some more that he said she would need.
"I-It's cold." Jelly said.
"Let me get you a blanket." I said to her.
I stood up and go out of the ward to ask Doc where I can get extra blankets when I saw him talking to Sasha and Stephen. They had a worried look on their faces.
"Claudia…" Sasha called when she saw me coming. "How is little Jelly?" She asked.
"She said she is a little cold." I replied. "Doc, where can I get extra blankets?" I asked.
"Oh, here let me get it for you." Doc said and walked towards a cabinet and took a blanket from the stack inside and gave it to me. "Here."
"Thanks." I replied. "Um, if I may ask, why are the three of you looking worried? Does Jelly have some kind of serious illness?" I asked worriedly.
"Oh no, it is not that serious." Doc replied. "But the problem is, I will almost ran out of antibiotics. What I have left will probably last for another three days, and what Jelly's body needs to fight off her illness is a week dose of the medicine. If we cannot get Jelly the antibiotics she needs, then her illness might become serious."
"Then can't we get the medicine she needs?" I asked in a worried tone.
"It is not that easy Claudia." Stephen replied. "As you know, procuring medicine is not that easy now. We need to get medicine from a community that has the equipment that produce them. And like other communities, we need to wait in line to get them."
"I have ordered a new batch of medicine and antibiotics, but the problem is the shipment is not until next week." Doc said. "I am sure that the medicine is already packed and ready, the only problem is the delivery date. I am afraid Jelly's young body will not last that long without medicine."
"Is it the community we usually get our medicine supplies?" Sasha asked.
"Yes, it is still that community." Doc replied.
"Then that's perfect!" Sasha squealed in delight. "Claudia and I have plans to go there!"
"Is it that community we have a schedule on going?" I asked.
"Yes, that is correct!" Sasha said in delight. "The travel on foot is half a day at least. We can just spend the night there to do what you need yo do and get back the morning of the next day. We will make it in time, right?" She asked Doc.
"You probably will." Doc said, nodding his head. "Then I will leave the delivery to you."
Doc walked to his desk and got a pencil and a piece of paper. He wrote down something and then handed Sasha the piece of paper. I also looked at what was written on the paper and it looked like a name of a medicine.
"This is the medicine that Jelly needs." Doc said. "You do not need to get all the packaged I ordered because it would be quite heavy for the both of you. You only need to get this back to me here tomorrow."
"Hmm, I understand." Sasha nodded. "So Claudia, are you ready to go?" She asked me.
"As ready as I will ever be." I replied with determination.
I wanted to help Jelly from the bottom of my heart. I am sure Grandma Marie will also be very worried. Then both of them have been good to me since the first time I came here in the community and I want to give back their kindness.
"I am coming with you." Stephen said instantly.
"But don't you have plans today at the daycare center with Anna?" I replied. "Sasha, Devon and I can take care of this."
"This is an important mission that I need to partake as well." Stephen said. "I think Anna and the kids in the daycare center will understand." I just nodded in understanding.
"Then let's get ready then." Sasha said. "Meet you all at the gate by ten."
"Sure." I replied.
"Okay." Stephen replied.
Sasha and Stephen exited the clinic and I took the blanket to Jelly and I saw her sound asleep.
'She was breathing evenly now. Thank God.' I thought.
I draped the blanket over her and looked at her sleeping. She looked like an angel while her eyes were closed.
"Don't worry. I promise I will get the medicine that you need." I said and kissed her forehead. "Just sleep tight and rest well."
I walked towards the door and looked back at Jelly one last time. If my daughter was sick like her, I will surely do anything in my power to get what she needs to be healthy again.
'Maybe this is my motherly instincts kicking in.' I thought. 'I hope our journey will be uneventful.'
Little did I know that this trip will be very different from the other trips I have gone through.
