Continuing their mission, the three marched. Not long after, they finally arrived at the school. Peeking to the right of a tree, they saw zombies running around, growling at each other. 'Are they communicating?'
It was a weird sight to see. It was as if the zombies were getting more and more intelligent. Then, out of nowhere, one of the buff zombies bit the other's head off. The speed type being weaker physically couldn't help but die. Especially when it got caught by the buff zombie.
*Screech*
The zombies screeched and started jumping around. It was like they were celebrating. 'Weird.' Johnathan continued watching and what he saw next surprised him. The zombie reached into the one it killed and took out its crystal. Dropping it into its mouth and screeching in pain, it got up. With a roar, all the surrounding zombies quieted down. There was already a hierarchy from what it seems, but now the zombie really showed that it was their '
'king.'
Not wanting to watch any longer, the three quietly walked forwards. Luckily, the zombies didn't notice them. With the cars and fence in between them, they safely made it past the school.
Turning left into a driveway, they reached the neighborhood right beside the school. "Grrrrrr." The boys heard multiple zombies growling and aimlessly cruising around. Since they weren't covered, the zombie saw them. There were six zombies. Two strength types and four-speed ones. With mana enhancement, the boys had nothing to fear. They leaped off the ground and sprinted towards the zombies. The latter did the same.
Johnathan, reaching for one, moved mana to his hand and punched it. He only enhanced it by 5%, so it did minor damage. But that's what he wanted. The less amount he moved, the less time it took. Johnathan wasn't the only one who did this though. Ivan and Danny did the same. With three flying backward, the boys had enough time to take care of one each. So instead of fighting two each, their workload decreased by half. Not taking any longer, they charged forward.
Since he was close to the zombie, Johnathan didn't stop time. Taking out a knife from his side, he quickly moved 10% of his mana into the blade and stabbed the speed-type zombie in the head. Killing it, he didn't stop. The other zombie he knocked back was up already and was close to him. Stopping time for half a second, turning the word grey. Johnathan continued his assault. Once he reached it, he used his mana enhanced blade to stab it through the eye. Reaching the brain and piercing it, Johnathan killed the zombie. The word regained its color. Turning back, Johnathan watches the others kill their first zombie. He watched as they rushed forward and attacked the other ones. Danny, with his enhanced demonic arm, jumped up and threw a punch at the strength-type zombie's head. Bursting, Johnathan whistled. 'Wow. That's a crazy amount of strength.' He thought, looking at the lifeless body of the big zombie fall.
Johnathan then turned his head towards Ivan. With his mana enhanced knife, he ran towards the zombie. Shooting a weak lighting bolt from his finger at the zombie, he successfully stunned it for a second. He didn't stop running and continued his rush. Reaching the zombie, he stabbed it through the ears, killing it. The next minute was just them searching for crystals. Unfortunately, they weren't lucky enough to find even one. Not letting it ruin their mood, they continued walking forward.
With their fight not lasting long, they didn't attract any other zombies that were in the area. Occasionally hiding behind cars, trees, and going through people's backyards, the three finally escaped the neighborhood. However, they, unfortunately, had to cross the street ahead of them to get to the area Ivan lived in. The problem was, to get there, they needed to cross a street full of zombies.
"I have an idea," Johnathan said.
The two looked at him, waiting for an explanation. Johnathan sighed and started explaining. "I'm going to stop time for one second. But this time I'm going to enhance my legs by 95% of what's left. I'll carry you guys to the other side, but when it runs out, I'm going to be useless."
He was going to save 5% of his mana, which would allow him to not pass out or fall to the ground.
The two, hearing this, hesitantly nodded. They didn't mind the plan. They just didn't know if they could make it to the other side of the street in one second. Johnathan though was sure he could.
So with full confidence, he grabbed onto the two and brought out his mana, turning the world grey. Moving 95% of his mana that was left to his legs, he explosively lept off the ground.
Never using so much mana to enhance his body parts, Johnathan didn't know how strong the leap would be.
'Wow.' He thought as he jumped over the zombies.
Johnathan had cleared and jump over the zombies to reach the other side of the street with only one jump. Though he had a running start, it was something unbelievable. Quickly carrying the two behind a garbage bin, he watched as the world regained its color.
Being behind the bin, the zombies weren't able to see them. 'It's crazy what one second can do to someone desperate.' He thought, taking deep breaths.
Ivan and Danny looked at Johnathan in amazement. They couldn't believe that in one second they were already behind a garbage bin, across the street they originally came from.
Before they could give any praise, Johnathan put his index finger on his lips, signaling them to be quiet. Once they nodded, Johnathan whispered as quietly as he could. "Let's crawl behind this bank."
The two nodded once again in affirmation. They crawled as slowly and quietly as they could and luckily; they reached the back, alarming no zombies.
Getting to the back, they stood up with sighs. "Thank god we have you, man. I don't know how we would've got here if it weren't for you."
"Don't worry about it, Ivan. This is the least I can do for you guys."
"Don't mean to ruin the moment, but we should leave. You can hear them, can't you?"
Danny interrupted the two and pointed at the bank. "Grrr!" Loud growls were coming from inside. Johnathan threw a thumbs up while Ivan nodded. They would be stupid to stay behind a place that held god knows how many zombies.
Hopping over a small brick wall that was behind them, the three walked through the backyard of a random person's house.
A few more minutes of walking and hiding from zombies had finally led them to the street Ivan lived on. His house was third from the way they came, so luckily they could make it there with no trouble.
Impatiently, Ivan ran a couple of meters down the street and walked up to his front door. The two followed behind. Stopping at the door, Ivan readied himself. Opening the door, Ivan started praying. 'Please let them be safe, god. Please!'
