Finch felt her crushed hope revive in her. Until now she had been scared to even hope because she believed that he hated her. And he had every right to. She should have tried to be kinder to him when he had discovered his family had been punished instead of being protective and defensive on behalf of her mother. Maybe over time he would have believed her. But now they had come to this where he was making her give up her own mother.
