After eating, Becca and I walked back out into the alleyway. I looked down into my purse, searching for my cellphone so that I could look at my emails. Moving the countless number of lipsticks and pens, I cursed when I couldn't find it. "I think I may have left my phone in the restaurant; I'll be right bac- "
Turning around quickly, I moved to jog back into the restaurant until I saw sharp, high beams. Like a literal deer in front of gigantic headlights, I stared at the fast-approaching car. Even though I wanted to move, and all the gods above knew that I wanted to move. I couldn't. My feet were stuck firmly on the ground.
"Regina!" Feeling a hand grab my wrist, I was quickly snatched back and to the side as the car shot through the spot where I was standing. Becca pulled me back at the last moment and saved me from getting smacked by the fancy black vehicle. Pulling into one of the spots closest to the cluster of apartment complexes, the car sat there for a minute before the occupants of the cars stepped out.
"Did you see that motherfucker!?" I screeched. "Oh my god, he could have hit you!" Her grip was loose now, but it had been iron-clad just a few moments ago. Her breathing was a bit shallow, and the color in her cheeks drained, leaving her face pallor.
Two men stepped out of the backseat; the first who came from the passenger's side was a short young guy who gave off the stereotypical ball of the sunshine motif. With bleach blond hair and darkened roots, his tanned skin almost seemed to glisten with the waning sun. "Oh shit, are you fine." The way he said it made me apprehensive about whether it was a question. Noticing the look confirmed my suspicions that it was NOT a question of concern. He dragged his gaze along the curves of my body, and out of reflex, I had to stop myself from snapping at him. The other one, who came from the backseat, was big. Tall, taller than me, which says something considering I was a solid 6'0.
He gave off the appearance of a gentle giant with a soft, delicate face and shapely lips. With earth-colored skin, and black dreads that were neatly twisted, styled into a high ponytail, he stood silently appraising Becca and me, his face indifferent, and the blankness of it slowly started to make me feel uncomfortable. Finally, the driver stepped out, shutting the door behind him. However, he was just as tall as his counterpart, appearing maybe an inch or two shorter than him but just as fit, leaning more on the athletic side than muscular. His hair was dark, like the color of night, thick and wavy, reaching his waist. He had full lips, his cupids bow well defined, and stuck in a pout. His eyes, however, were hidden behind a thick pair of aviator shades.
"Hey asshole, nice driving! You almost smeared two innocent co-eds on the freaking road!" I couldn't tell if the guy was looking at me or not from behind his shades, but the way his plush lips formed a slight sneer, I had a feeling that all eyes were figuratively on me.
"Well, maybe if you weren't just standing in the middle of an alleyway that you know leads to parking, that might not have happened." The harsh baritone voice called out. "If you don't want to have any accidents, I would suggest that you pay attention to your surroundings."
"I'm sorry, last time I checked, this wasn't an intersection or a highway! Even if I was standing in the middle of the alley, you shouldn't have been speeding on a one-way street."
Scoffing, he leaned against the hood of his car, tilting his head. "Oh, will you look at that! The test-driving dummy actually has enough brain cells to read street signs but still can't tell when to get out the way."
Balking from the sheer audacity that he had, I had every intention to tell him exactly where he and his fucked up sarcasm could go.
He turned to his companions and tilted his head. "Come on, I'm hungry, and it's your turn to pay Ryker." With an almost snotty indifference, the man started walking away from and us.
The other men looked at each other and then back to us with an almost apologetic look. "Sorry ladies, he gets cranky when he hasn't eaten anything by three." The smallest one inclines his head in an apologetic gesture, his eyes crinkling, and his mouth set in a firm, thin line. The other one, who had not said anything the whole time, glanced back at us as if finally, for the first time, acknowledging our existence. Holding his hands out in front of him, he shrugged, following his friends like a duckling does their mother.
"That poor man. His soul is going to be damned to hell for eternity just because he had a dreadful day." Turning to look at her, my lip curled involuntarily, and my nose scrunched up.
"Girl, he drives a Maserati; there is nothing sad or poor about him! The saddest thing about him is the fact that he thinks those shades make him look cool." Glancing back at the black vehicle, a burning rage stirred in my belly. These assholes and their fancy-ass cars, and their fat wallets! They didn't care not one bit about anyone else's lives; it was always about them! Stuffing my hand into my pocket, I clutched my key ring with renewed vigor. Seeing the look on my face, Becca quickly grabbed onto my arm.
"No, no, no! Regina, let it go, okay?! We can go back to your place and watch re-runs of Living Single and talk about how vogue the '90s were!" Harshly shrugging her off, I walked over to the shiny black car. I took my keys out and lightly ran them over the surface of the vehicle. It really was a nice-looking car… NOT.
Digging into the paint, I started to key the car imaging his stupid face. Ignoring the gasps and pleads of Becca, I took a notepad out and quickly scribbled a message out, sticking it neatly in between his windshield wipers.
"Oh my god, why would you do that!?" I took a step back and looked at my deed. The word 'ASSHOLE' was carved onto the side, with a crude drawing of a dick right next to it. A slow manic smile grew on my face as the burning feeling started to settle.
"I have been avenged."
"You psycho, there was nothing to avenge! Come on, let's go before they come back out here!" Dragging me to her old beat-up pick-up track, she quickly unlocked the doors and threw her things inside. Not feeling the need to wait around because the prospect of them coming back to the alleyway was very much correct, I shuffled into the passenger's side and threw my belonging onto the floor by my feet. As soon as I had shut the door, she quickly cued up the engine, maneuvered out of the parking lot and alleyway.
"Why couldn't you just leave!?"
"Why couldn't he just say sorry?"
"I should turn you in to the police!"
"Do it then."
"Why are you so toxic?!"
"I regret nothing." Still not knowing where my phone was, I decided to check my bag one more time, searching all the pockets. When I felt something hard, my face smoothed into a blank expression.
"Girl."
"What?" Turning her head slightly to look at me, I lifted my cellphone for her to see. She let out a pained groan, and once the light turned green, she sped off and away from the district.
The three men walked out of Wally's feeling stuffed and in a better mood. They had been working the newest case from the state for 16 hours straight and needed a break desperately. Theo, the eldest and shortest of the group, had his arms behind his head, strolling back to the car with the other two in tow. He was whistling a cheery tone; his thin lips puckered to hum out the harmonious notes. The food at Wally's always had a way of making people feel better, and with the much-needed break and refuel, he felt in tip-top shape again. He could only hope that his best friend felt the same way, especially after seeing his treatment of the beautiful young woman.
"Well, I hope this break makes you nicer, Haku. You were an ass and a half to that girl."
The taller of the trio nodded solemnly in agreement. Although he hadn't said anything to the woman, he felt that the younger man's behavior was utterly unnecessary. It had been his fault, as he should not have been speeding in a residential area where people could be walking around. She was nothing but a victim of circumstance.
The offender let out a sigh. His black shades had moved from his face to rest on top of his head, revealing a pair of obsidian-colored monolid eyes. Two moles rested underneath his left eye that accentuated his beauty. A beauty that could only be compared to that of the god of beauty himself coming down to grace these poor mortals.
"I know! I may have been a teensy bit of an asshole… I should have just said sorry."
Smiling that his oldest friend was receptive to criticism, Theo waltzed over and attempted to throw his arm around his shoulders. However, being the smallest of the three, he only ended up being able to do so by standing on his toes. "See, old Tagger can be right sometimes! You should listen to me more; it could help you in the love department. Or at least in getting the ladies." Theo waggled his eyebrows.
Kohaku snorted and brushed Theo's arm away from him. "I don't need help in that department, thanks."
"Uhm, guys?"
"Oh? So, you're an expert in beauties, then? The grand emperor of picking up ladies?"
"You sound goofy. That's how we know you're still a virgin."
"Guys-"
"You take that back! I'll have y-"
"GUYS!" Ryker's soft voice boomed throughout the parking lot, and both Kohaku and Theo stopped their banter. Peering at the giant, Kohaku placed his hand on his chest in mock hurt.
"No need to yell, big guy."
"Yeah, all you had to do was just speak up."
Ryker stared blankly at the duo and shook his head at them. He gestured to Kohakus's car in a rushed motion, pointing to the driver's side with urgency. Kohaku, at first, did not understand what the problem was. Bethany looked the same, as usual, sexy, sleek, marked up… WAIT, What?! Kohaku rushed over to the driver's side and placed both hands on top of his head, staring in disbelief. The once shiny and flawless vehicle that had been his prize possession was now marked viciously. The words' ASSHOLE' were carved indiscriminately and etched deep into the exterior of the car. Kohaku felt his blood boiling the longer he stared at the offending scars. Curling his hand into a fist, he gritted his teeth and resisted the urge to scream to the high heavens.
"Oh, is that a dick next to it too?" Theo's jeering laughter did not make the situation any better, as he took in the damage to his car. He had it for five months now and was taking the utmost care of it, as if it were a newborn babe, but now. Now it was desecrated!
"Uh, Kohaku?" Kohaku whipped his head over to Ryker, who had a white piece of paper in his hand. Snatching the paper from Ryker, Kohaku looked it over and almost blacked out right there. On the paper in cursive, it read, 'Cheer's bitch!' With a winky face and a tongue sticking out. Instantly, Kohaku knew who it was. An image of a tall curvaceous umber skinned woman entered his mind. Her beautiful face scrunched up in anger, and her short burgundy hair curling around her shoulders. Her sleepy mahogany eyes squinting at him, promising a prolonged death.
"That bitch has met her fucking match."
