Chapter 7 - Interlude-Versch

Versch had been watching the Falle keep for weeks, and the only time he had seen their target emerge had been to shoot a longboy in the courtyard gardens. He was situated in a messenger tower above one the many merchant building of Bayn. The narrow walkways and bridges above the city allowed the merchants of Bayn to conduct business rapidly, also serving as a means of gathering, exchanging and buying information for the nobles of Bayn. Versch had paid of the the tailor who held this tower, ordinarily he would've simply killed the messenger who occupied it. But a small disturbance in the network of messengers would ripple through the city, alerting his quarry. It was a common transaction, as by night, the web above Bayn became a maze for the hunters and hunted. Assassins seeking the heads of those who had wronged their masters, bodyguards roaming the walkways near their masters' residences and the ever present messengers, gathering information and running back and forth to relay it. One might wonder why an individual would not simply not have any walkways attached to their abode. But anybody who wanted to be somebody had to be attached to the arteries of Bayn, or they would be ignorant and two steps behind their rivals. There were only a few walkways leading to Falle keep, each guarding by a pair of watchmen, and unlike your regular watchman, they were not playing cards or pipe smoking. They were alert and constantly scanning the surrounding area. Versch had grown tired of watching the keep, there was no way the Senke boy would be leaving soon, and the place was well defended, it looked as if he would have to take matters into his own hands.

"Versch, what do you have to report?" Jorst was hunched over a barely cooked hunk of meat, still oozing with blood as he bit into it. He relished in the more savage aspects of being a Wier, not aline amongst his brethren in doing so.

"No chance to catch him outside, with your leave I'd like to go in and do the job myself."

"See that it's done." Versch turned to leave, eager to fufill his task.

"Versch! Bring me his head!"
