Chapter 29 - All My Men

Smith and the leader looked at each other. He actually started to feel more relaxed during this time.

Smith answered every question that the investigator asked. As to whether he wanted to believe Smith, it was up to him.

Whatever the investigator wanted to do with the information was his choice after all.

Smith's imagination was very rich.

He described traditional classical magic as one that was primarily based on one's ability. Magic-users had to ensure that they use the right gestures and languages to conjure their powers.

Magic-users had to use their aura as a bridge.

They had to connect the laws from the present world to the underworld to complete their spells.

Nevertheless, magic had progressed with time. Modern magic had completely taken a different path.

Modern magic used the connection of modern devices to connect the network as a base.

Electronic devices had replaced gestures and languages had been replaced by code.

Through proper manipulation, magic could be channeled into the substrate.

It could then be channeled through the network and serve as a bridge between the laws of the present world and the other worlds in order to complete the spell.

Smith said that he had used the power of modern magic to build those buildings.

He was not going to disclose anything about the system.

Smith was not afraid of what the superiors might do to him. He was also not paranoid about the persecution.

He was a man with a clean slate. He also had a special ability that was good for the country.

Unless they were brain-dead, they would not go after him.

Normally, the country would accommodate a person so long as their assessments were accurate, and their presence was good for the country's development.

This was especially so if it was a man like Smith who had a special ability. The extreme speed of construction alone was enough of a reward for the country, and this was not inclusive of Smith's construction projects and his other strange abilities.

As long as he used it well, he would be able to contribute to the country using his abilities. It was similar to adding wings onto a tiger!

Therefore, Smith was not worried that the country would harm him.

"I didn't expect Mr. Smith to have such abilities. Very good, very good."

"Then Mr. Smith, after you build the project, will you be able to know what special effects the project will have?"

The leader pondered for a moment and suddenly changed his expression. He was very satisfied with Smith's appearance.

"More or less. I only know the general idea, but I don't always have a complete understanding of it. For example, this time, the subway Line 9 had a strong tunnel and a safety attribute. However, I still don't understand the third effect."

Smith told the truth. He had nothing to hide.

"What's the third effect?" asked the leader.

"According to my senses, the third effect is to make people dance when there's a chicken around. But on the subway, no chicken is allowed. How can they still dance? I still don't understand it," said Smith in a serious tone.

After the leader heard Smith's spoke, the corner of his mouth twitched. He then took out a document from the side.

"You'll know when you look at this."

After reading the document, Smith was weirded out.

The people were actually dancing to the smell of a chicken and a chicken meant prostitute.

"Smith, actually, I suggested to look for you because I have a lot of questions to ask you."

"But I also understand that many people have their own secrets, so I won't ask too much. Otherwise, you'll lie to me, and I'll feel uncomfortable listening to it."

"But you have to remember this one thing. No matter what secrets you have, you have to always remember in your heart what your camp and position are."

"Don't worry, leader. I absolutely have no problem with this!" said Smith.

"In my work life, I will always remember what you had said to me."

Smith was interrupted before he could finish.

"Alright, Alright, stop with all the politeness."

"I've always heard these in meetings."

"As long as you remember what I've told you and you don't do anything illegal, I guarantee you that no one will hurt you, and no one will pay attention to you."

"But since you have the ability, you have to participate in other construction projects more. Compared to the other developers, I believe that the quality of your projects would be even better if they didn't have those strange special effects," said the leader in a serious tone.

Smith knew that the matter was finally over.

In the future, no one would use these special circumstances to create trouble for him.

The discussion was also over.

Smith was ready to leave.

Before he left, the leader gave Smith a book.

At first, Smith thought it was a license.

When he opened it, he found out that it was only the title of a national infrastructure project consultant.

Smith was very disappointed.

"Smith, you should come to my place more often when you're free. We'll have some tea and chat. Chatting with younger people makes me feel like I'm getting younger and younger," said the leader with a smile.

The corners of Smith's mouth twitched.

Does it look like there was something wrong with him?

Why would he go to the investigator's office for no reason?

Nevertheless, he put on a show.

"Definitely, definitely."

"Oh right, Barrett and Eve are both investigators? Are they fine following me around?" asked Smith.

Smith looked at Barrett and Eve who were about to leave with him.

"If you want to send someone to spy on me, you should at least change it to someone that I don't know."

"To arrange people so brazenly by my side, have you considered my feelings?"

"It's fine. From now on, they'll be the consultant assistants. They'll help you deal with any problems."

"Don't treat them as handymen either. They're elite investigators," said the boss whilst smiling.

Suddenly, Smith thought of a problem.

It seemed like it was due to the nature of his office.

"If Eve was an investigator, then what about the others?" asked Smith. He was puzzled.

"Hehe, you might not believe me if I tell you."

"Actually, that company of yours, other than you, everyone else is mine," said the boss.

Smith could only admire him.

He had nothing more to say.

He could only admire him from afar.
