Chapter 4 - The Merciful Me is Dead!

"Copy these videos to me and you can get back to other things."

Agent James instructed the team to get some rest.

After all, it had been more than ten hours since the incident and they needed to rest.

James walked out of the room.

Brian remained still.

He seemed to be thinking about something.

Was the incident really a coincidence? That a single pencil had done this to the heir to the biggest corporation in Chicago?

Brian felt that something was wrong.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt strange about the entire incident.

Brian waited until the captain and the others had all left.

He switched on the surveillance footage again. Brian felt that the answer was here.

After watching the footage over and over again, Brian's eyes stopped on a young man in a black coat.

The young man looked like any average person.

However, when the image was enlarged, it was drawn on Brian.

Brian gasped.

That familiar face... A tragic case from five years ago suddenly flashed through Brian's mind.

All of a sudden, everything seemed to be connected.

Brian looked at the pencil and then at the man in the surveillance camera.

Could it be this man? Goosebumps formed on Brian's body.

"This must be a coincidence!"

Brian did not believe that anyone in this world could do such a terrible thing.

If the man really did it, was he still considered a human?

Brian silently forgot about this matter.

Even if Brian told his team about his speculations, no one would believe him.

A pencil, placed on the garbage can at the right time could kill a person.

Who would believe this kind of ridiculous speculation?

This was a crime that could not be convicted despite knowing that the other party was the culprit.

If there was such a crime, it would be impossible for the police to find the truth and evidence.

Brian knew that his speculation had gone beyond the thinking of a normal person.

Brian decided not to dwell in it.

Anyway, there was nothing he could do in this matter.

...

On the other side.

After the incident, Lott visited Yisha in the coma care centre.

He put down the flowers in his hand and gently stroked Yisha's cheek.

Lott had so many things to say to Yisha.

He sent Emma away.

Now, there was no one else except for Yisha in the ward.

Lott sat by the bed, holding Yisha's hand.

Lott said what he had just done, word by word, from how it happened in the beginning to how Ian was paralyzed from head to toe with steel bars stuck all over his body.

Lott could not hold back his tears.

For nearly ten minutes, it was like a prayer as if an account he had made to himself for all these years.

He had fulfilled the oath he had sworn.

Lott held Yisha's hand, tears streaming down his face.

An hour later, Lott arranged the flowers in a vase.

Lott took a last look at Yisha before he left.

Ian was just the beginning.

The pain Lott had experienced was not just physical pain.

...

In a cheap rental house.

Lott faced a writing board.

It was filled with information he had gathered.

It contained everything that had been exposed about Ian over the years.

[In 2015, at the age of 15, Ian raped a cheerleader in high school... In the end, he was suppressed by Old Ian and compensated the victim with money.]

[In 2016, 16-year-old Ian and his partner hit a couple with a car. A woman fell into a coma...]

[In 2017...]

Looking at the shocking tragedies, Lott decided to meet the real person now - Ian, who was rescued in the "car accident".

Lott wanted to know what was Ian like now.

Lott was curious what would Ian's reaction be when Ian saw Lott again.

Lott entered the text in the search box.

"How to enter the hospital unimpeded and see Ian who was rescued?"

After clicking the confirmation button, countless search results rushed before his eyes.

These results were quickly displayed in front of Lott.

...

It was midnight.

Lott was wearing a black coat.

He came out of the alley.

Across from him was the hospital which Ian was in.

Since he had the system, Lott's mentality had changed tremendously.

He could get what he wanted.

Lott's action had become very direct, without the complicated judgment of ordinary people.

For example, he had just taken care of a few punks here.

Everything was done naturally and instinctively.

Lott walked forward and arrived at the Chicago Hospital.

He walked into the hospital elevator with a relaxed expression.

Lott greeted the crowd with a gentle expression and pressed the button for the ICU floor.

Then, he put his hands in his pockets as if he was casually coming back to his own home.

The others were also secretly sizing him up.

However, Lott's gold-rimmed glasses and black coat still managed to scare a lot of people.

From the first step out of the alley, Lott had strictly followed the system's instructions to make adjustments on himself.

"One second later, the elevator door will open. Take out your hands, look at your watch, and slowly leave."

The system's notification sounded in Lott's mind.

"Ding!"

The elevator bell rang.

Lott immediately raised his wrist and looked at his watch.

He felt the gazes around him.

Lott walked out of the elevator.

At this moment, he looked like an intensive care doctor who was called to work overtime in the middle of the night.

Lott walked to the corridor of the intensive care unit.

According to the system notification, Lott immediately followed a doctor who seemed to be limping.

Lott stopped looking around and directed his gaze forward.

Lott followed the doctor to his office.

According to the system notification, the doctor's name was Alan.

The doctor was 40 years old and he was in charge of the intensive care unit.

Tonight, he had eaten something bad and as a result, suffered from a severe stomachache. He had gone to the toilet several times.

Ten seconds ago, his stomach suddenly growled.

"Twenty seconds later, he would open the office door and enter the toilet."

"You need to enter the office within five seconds."

"Otherwise, the electronic door would close."

Lott followed Dr. Alan at a leisurely pace.

Then, Dr. Alan rushed into the office, took out his employee card, and swiped the door open.

Dr. Alan did not realize that there was someone following him.

Just as the electronic door was about to close, a hand reached out to block it.

Lott's eyes were calm as he walked into Dr. Alan's office.

Lott's eyes quickly swept across the office.

There was no one else there.

It was as if Lott had been here countless times.

Lott took a white coat from the hanger and put it on.

Then, he took a spare card from under a pile of documents.

Lott turned around and walked away.

Then, Lott locked the toilet door from the outside.
