Tomorrow was her birthday, and yet here she was in bed, staring at the dark ceiling. No expectations for the upcoming party, nor the possible presents. The weight of the choice she had to make laid heavy upon her chest.
As Faith closed her eyes in an attempt to clear her thoughts, Andrew's face appeared clear as day. No, she preferred the darkness of the room. So she opened her eyes again just as a tapping sound came from the window.
"It was fun watching you today at the river," a voice said directly inside Faith's mind. "You were looking at him as if he was a nut or a juicy worm."
"Oh, shut up, Raven, and go away!" Faith whispered, knowing that the crow would hear her anyhow. She was her friend, but that pesky bird was always diving inside her innermost thoughts.
Another set of pestering knocks at the window. "You can't make me stay quiet. It's the first time you found a mate."
