Drake dozed off in the carriage several times. Sleep didn't come easily as the rough road and the rocks on the path made for a bumpy ride. Even though he didn't get any rest, dreams caught shape at the edge between reality and memories. Or nightmares. Drake couldn't tell the difference anymore.
Having no news from Hope made his mind wander and his imagination ran rampant. Terrors from the past, or a possible future, crawled inside his shallow dream. He wanted to scream, to run away from them.
"Do you want to spend your entire life hiding behind a mask? There is nothing wrong with being yourself."
Drake opened his eyes as Hope's words broke the nightmare. He was still alone in the carriage, but she was always there to help him tame the beast inside.
