"Hey, Elias!" I called out as I watched him disappear around the corner. Even though I had taken off my heels, I had to stop for a moment to tie the shawl back around my shoulders.
I figured out where he was going based on some of the turns he took, and rushed down the quick shortcut instead, wincing as my bare feet touched the cold surface of the bridge.
It seemed that he read my mind earlier when I thought about how isolated the offices were. None of the generals were here since they were getting ready for the ball, and besides Elias and me, there was nobody else that would come to their offices on such a day. But with the two of us, it's a habit that's impossible to break. I find comfort being alone in my office surrounded by paperwork, while Elias likes to stop by and take a nap on the leather couch.
By the time the two ways connected, I finally caught up to him.
