K1 cleared his throat and wanted to say something but he didn't know what to say. He glanced at K3 who also had a bewildered expression.
"What do you mean, sir?" K3 could ask after a period of surprise. He had to keep up character and not fret.
The man shrugged. "I usually see that you have a mole under your eye. Anyway, what do I know? I can barely see things from far away these days."
K3 and K1 heaved a sigh of relief inwardly but outwardly they chuckled lightly. K3 even went to add, "You do a great job out here, sir."
"I know, I know," he raised his hands with a smile on his face. "If not for the attack I suffered back in the war I would still be out in the war front fighting to keep the peace. Sigh, one must know when to take a break."
"It isn't half as bad," K1 added. He figured they had to be smooth to avoid suspicions. "We don't even get the chance to see the real fight."
"Your time will come kid though I wouldn't advise that you start praying for a war to start. We need peace for a change." The man said with a serious look.
"So, true." K3 said. They walked away from the man and towards the gate where the other soldiers let them in after glancing at the IDs.
Inside, they found a very large structure. It was even bigger in person than what they saw in the aerial photographs and the projected maps. The building was shaped like a dome with intricate metal frames running along the sides as if dividing it into angles.
K1 glanced to the side and noticed a group of soldiers unpacking large boxes from a truck nearby. He could point out Priscilla from the group and she was chatting with the other female officer fondly.
K1 frowned and leaned forward to whisper to K3. "Something's not right."
"I see it," K3 replied. "If K7 is with those people then it might be difficult for her to play her part."
Despite this they walked on ahead and toward the single entrance of the building. They scanned their IDs and the light turned green and the door opened for them to go in.
Once inside, K1 looked towards the long corridor that went in both directions. "My destination is that way." He said pointing to the left.
K3 nodded. "I'll be waiting for your signal."
Up ahead, opposite the corridor that extended left to right, was a large hall with many soldiers standing, sitting or walking around. Most of them were drinking coffee while some were just chatting and laughing. K3 looked down at each of them and his eyes landed on the guns that were held with the muzzles facing the ground. He retracted his gaze and moved away.
K1 quickly pressed his earpiece and said, "K1 to K10 and K11, I'm in position. Wait for my signal before approaching him eastern exit."
"Copy that."
….
After every box was packed up, Richard looked towards Priscilla with a suggestive gaze. "Are you going to go in?"
She nodded eagerly. "I want to get a tour around the facility."
Richard suppressed a chuckle. "Be careful so you don't get your hopes up. There isn't much to see out here anyway."
He turned to the others and said, "You can stay in the truck, I'll check inside for a while."
Priscilla, Pauline and Richard moved forward towards the only entrance and scanned their IDs. The door opened and they entered. Richard pointed forward towards the hall where a lot of people gathered. "Let's see if we can get someone who wants to show us around a bit."
Pauline paused and raised her hand. "What if I don't want to go sightseeing here?"
"What would you prefer to do?"
She shrugged and smiled a bit. "I prefer looking around for soldiers with good body."
Priscilla chuckled and glanced at Richard who simply shook his head. "This is not the time for that."
If he didn't know better he would say that Pauline was taking this to be more like a hobby. However, he knew better. He knew very well why she was always looking for men with good body. He shook his head and walked ahead.
The moment Priscilla had breathing space, she quickly put the ear piece to her ear and softly said, "K7 to command, I'm in a bit of a situation and might not be able to reach the power switch in time."
There was a moment of silent before K1's voice was heard over the ear piece. "That might be a problem. Find a way and get to the switch. I will open the exit when I receive confirmation from K5."
"I'll try." She said and moved on to join Richard and Pauline. Be it Priscilla, Pauline or Richard, they were all greeted with a salute from the soldiers.
….
K5 sat on the chair toward the window with a smile on his face. He muttered softly, "this is as easy as eating a cake."
He clicked a button on his laptop and the dots on the screen went from red to blue. He smiled and simply accessed each of the camera points inside the building and then made it continue to play the previous footages in a loop.
It would take a while before the guards realised what was happening. He pressed his earpiece lightly. "K5 to K3, the cameras have been taken down. You may now proceed to the underground lab."
"Copy."
He stood up and stretched his legs for a while. Now that his part was done, he just had to wait in case anything went wrong.
He reached into his pocket and took out a cigarette pack. He took out a stick of cigarette and lighted it. For someone who grew up in Boulderview where the sunshine often looked like the glow from a lighter, he made it a habit to always bring a lighter with him.
He lit the cigarette and took a long drag before releasing the smoke and watched as it filled the space in front of him. He still maintained his amiable smile.
