Chapter 36 - Virus E

"Did we shake him off?"

"I think so," Rozan replied. He tried to shoot too, but Raymond managed to evade as if he could see the two bullets that was moving in high speed. It was really bizarre.

William nodded. "It's good that he didn't aim for the tires or we'll be in trouble."

Thud!

Hearing the sound of something falling, they turned their eyes and saw Sienna slumped on the floor, hitting the box before her. Her eyes were unfocused as her mouth began to mutter something incoherent. It was clear that she was shaken because of something.

"Sienna?" William called out. He frowned and bypassed the boxes to get near her. "What happened."

"…It's Virus E."

"Yes?"

"That man is activating virus E just now… it's impossible…. That virus is supposed to be a failure…." Sienna muttered and mumbled some other words that couldn't be caught.

William frowned. He knew that there were five different viruses, but he was not clear about the implication of each of them. He grabbed Sienna's arm and shook her body to make her focus on him.

"Sienna!"

"Y…yes?"

"Can you speak properly and told us what happened?"

"Ah…" Sienna began to regain focus. She noticed that Rozan and Gloria were also looking at her direction with worried gaze. Even though Gloria was still in her hiding place and Rozan was blocked by several boxes, she could feel that they were concerned about her.

"Sorry."

William furrowed his brows. "What are you talking about before?"

Sienna took a deep breath. "As you already know before, Virus X and E are created for different purpose. They're used to enhance someone's ability, which will make it possible for one to grow stronger. Virus X is affecting one's physical ability while Virus E is affecting a completely different factor."

"You said that it's affecting our mind, right?" William asked, recalling the claim that Sienna made just a few days ago.

"It's not completely true," Sienna admitted. She gritted her teeth and looked at William. "The true purpose is to create abilities that are not supposed to belong to human. In other words, it's a virus that can make your body generate some kind of weird skill that shouldn't have been possible."

"Weird skill?"

"What kind of skill?"

Sienna's face turned dark when she saw that they were only interested in the skill. Didn't they know that what they just saw could possibly be the first ever human to develop that kind of super skill? It would be a historical moment, ah!

William didn't notice at all that Sienna was aggrieved by their reaction. He didn't have any interest in the so called history and those related to it. What interest him the most is that there might be a possibility for them to gain skill that might be beyond what normal human could do.

What would be a good one?

X-ray vision?

Avatar like ability?

Turn invisible?

"Listen to me! It's supposed to be not possible!"

"Didn't you just say that Raymond get weird ability?" William asked with puzzled tone after being pulled back to reality by the annoyed Sienna.

Sienna nodded. "If I'm not wrong, when his eyes glow, he can see things in slow motion. It means that Virus E somehow attacked his eyes and created a powerful ability for him."

"Isn't it means that other people can do it too?"

"Based on the research result that was shared to us, the rate is only one among 1 million for Virus E to successfully enter your body and multiply there to create some kind of weird ability," Sienna shattered William's hope almost immediately.

Even Yakov, who was driving, nearly turned in a wrong turn when he heard what Sienna said. "1 among 1 million?"

"How did you get the number?"

Sienna felt cold sweat pouring on her back when she saw their gazes on her. Silently she sighed. "There's experiment done on human…"

"Oh?"

William's eyes turned cold when he heard that. He should have expected this to happen from the very first moment the war broke out. The big countries didn't want to lose from one another and chose to develop powerful virus that could serve either as biological weapon or to increase their strength.

And to know whether it would be effective or not, experiments on human would be inevitable.

How stupid of him to not realize something like that sooner.

"That means, there's already someone else who managed to manifest a powerful ability before?" Gloria asked.

"Ah, yes. There's one."

"In Country H?"

"No, in different country," Sienna replied. "There's an association for scientists and researchers to gather. Just a week before I took a vacation to this country, they show us a video of a test subject that managed to activate virus E."

"What is his ability?"

"Mind reading."

William's face turned strange. He looked at Sienna with arched eyebrows. "Aren't there a lot of people who could do that by relying on what we saw?"

"It's different." Sienna shook her head. "It's…"

BANG!

At that moment, they could hear sudden explosion coming not far from them.
