Chapter 1 - Nuclear Bomb

It was supposed to be an ordinary day.

"William!"

The sound of a scream coming from the phone surprised the man. He was holding a phone while driving his car. His dark eyes were looking at the traffic jam before him with annoyance while his foot stomped on the brake.

"What is it? I'm driving," the man, William, replied in annoyance. He was around 24 years in age, but he had the bearing that would make it easy for people to flinch in fear. His dark eyes and black hair were common in this area, so he was not easily noticeable in a crowd except when he wanted to make his presence known.

However, his displeased tone was not conveyed to the person who was calling him. He continued to speak, "Do you even know how expensive the international call is? Don't ignore me during this time."

"If you truly have a message that you need to convey, it'll be best if you just send the usual code message and don't need to personally create a transmission line like this," William retorted without a care. He looked outside the window with a frown because the cars didn't seem to move in the slightest bit.

"I'm calling you to inform you that Country V is starting to make their moves!"

"What?"

William furrowed his brows. For the past few months, the tension all around the world was rising very rapidly. Not only the impending war was making people scared, the appearance of sudden powerful virus all over the world sent them to fear. Just as Corona Virus had just passed, there was already new danger impending of them.

Several countries developed biological weapon and the scariest one was called as Virus R.

While some people were kept under wrap of the virus, the start of the nuclear war just two months ago caused the virus to break loose. Numerous people were infected and turned into a 'monster' who will attack other people without care.

Wars have already broken out in more than 50 countries all over the world. There were only over two hundred or so country in the entire world, so it was nearly a quarter. Those who chose to not participate were either too small or because they didn't have any power to do so. Only some bigger countries tried to stay neutral in this situation.

"You got to be kidding me," William muttered and noticed that the cars finally moved. He turned the wheel to the side and chose to enter the intersection that was heading outside the capital city.

Today and tomorrow were supposed to be his day's off, so he was planning to spend the day by visiting the mountains several hundred kilometers away on the south of the capital city. He was planning to meet with his comrade in arm and spent the night peacefully, but this call might change everything.

He was not ready to start working again in his day off.

"I'm not! If Country V chose to get involved, Other countries might choose to attack them first."

William really wished to sigh. Country V is a big country in terms of size. It was also located at quite a strategical location and has numerous valuable resources, which was the main reason why this country was coveted many years ago. The people here were enslaved before they gained their independence around a century or so ago.

By now, the country was quite powerful, but it was still fall in terms of political and military power compared to other big countries. When there were conflicts, Country V usually remained neutral, but it didn't seem to be the case this time.

"Did the president speak?"

"Yes."

"When?"

"Yesterday! They hold secret conference and it's decided that Country V will…."

William's heart dropped when he sensed that the voice had died down. He looked at his phone. It was still working and the battery showed more than 70 percent, but the signal had already cut off. It seemed that there must be something that occurred either on the other side of the phone or on his side.

Just as he was thinking, William continued to drive his car out of the main road. By this time, he was already out of the capital city and currently located in a small city that was located at the south of the capital city. The city might be small, but it was crowded with people and cars almost all the time.

'I'm stuck here.'

William sighed and stopped the car. He glanced at the side and noticed that there was a train passing by not far on the right side. Afterwards, he glanced to the back and looked at the sky.

'That's…'

A small bird looked as if it was at a distance away, but William knew better than anyone. It was not a bird.

It was a plane.

To be able to fly on top of the capital city without getting found out, there were only several planes that were capable to do so. William hurriedly crouched down on his car when he felt loud voice and sudden pressure coming from his back.

BAM!

In but seconds, the temperature risen to exceedingly high degree.

There was nothing but curse inside William's head. 'Who's the idiot that think using nuclear bomb in the capital city filled with people will be a good thing?'

While it was clear that they would be able to eliminate most of the important officials this way, it would also involve millions of citizens. If he was not wrong, the number of people living in the capital city alone was around 20 millions of people.

Even if they could survive, the next would be a complete nightmare for them.

Bang!

Screams were mixed with sounds of explosions. Fire spread all over the place, burning everything to ash.

In but a moment, the world that used to be there disappeared.

Time ticked.

It felt so slow despite only a few seconds passed.

After what felt like a lifetime, William no longer felt the pressure. He could see that the cars were squeezed due to the sudden force. Several of the cars were destroyed and his own was not in better condition. Both the front and the back were bent to a horrible degree.

William looked at his hand. There were scratches, but there was no other life threatening wounds. He glanced out and noticed that the train that was supposedly speeding by his side was overturned. Several cars and houses were the victim of the crash.

'It's hot, but I don't suffer any burns.'

Thud!

'It's good that I choose to get out of the capital city... but how am I supposed to return back now?'

Looking to the back, William was at lost. How did they make their attack to the capital city?
