Chapter 2 - HELLO?!

The man's head swung around quickly. Blood and peeled skin were all you could see. His face was covered in blood and open cuts, and his skin looked like it was decomposing because of the skin peeling off his face. I gasped while covering my mouth and jumping back, causing me to drop my crutches.

I pinched my wrist repeatedly, hoping that I would wake up from this horrible nightmare. But it didn't work. I began to walk backwards slowly. Once I got to the door, I turned around and quietly closed the cafeteria door.

I stared through the small window in the cafeteria door, and that thing was still standing there doing nothing, just staring in my direction.

After 5 minutes of me just staring at it, I saw I noticed its leg lift about to take a step. I turned around in a fast motion as I began walking away. My pace was getting quicker and quicker, knowing that my leg would significantly hurt after all of the adrenalin wore off. As I ran in the hall, which seemed to get narrower and narrower as I kept going, I began thinking about my mom and sister. Were they alive? I mean, I made it; why wouldn't they right? What was the thing in the food court? Was it just that the man in the food court was injured from whatever it was that happened? What day is it

I was hit with humid and thick air and sun hot enough to make you feel like you just finished working out without moving. I hadn't even realized that I was outside. I don't even remember opening any doors. I looked behind me, and the glass hospital doors were wide open. I went back in. Maybe another survivor had gone in for help, I thought to myself.

I went back into the hospital and began looking around for any sign of another person. I talked to myself to keep myself from thinking about the "person" in the cafeteria. I had gone into every room and hall on the first floor. I decided to check out the second floor.

As I walked around, I heard a loud bang from the first floor. The echoes of the noise resonating through the hospital as I ran down the stairs and out of the hospital. Once I felt like I was far enough, I slowly began to slow down and gradually came to a stop.

As I stood to catch my breath, I heard footsteps rapidly getting closer to me. I turned around and saw a woman that had her cheek open, exposing her teeth and her gums. There were layers of blood on her clothes and skin, with more blood dripping from her mouth. Her eyes looked an extremely light, light blue.

In my mind, I kept telling myself to run, but my body was frozen in place. As she came closer to me, I began to regain control of my body. Just as I was about to run away, I heard a loud noise, and the 'person' in front of me dropped down on the ground.

I let out a loud, high-pitched scream that could probably be heard for miles. I looked up, and there was a woman; she looks like she is at least my age.

"Are you ok?" she asked as she scanned me.

"Yeah thanks, do you know what happened? What was wrong with her? Where is everyone?-" as I was about to go on with the list of questions that I had repeated in mind a thousand times, the woman stopped me.

"Hey, calm down and breath," she replied with a soft smile in an attempt to calm me down, which did not work at all.

"What do you mean, calm down? I can't find anyone that doesn't look dead, my sister and mom aren't picking up their phones, and you just killed someone right in front of me!" I yelled back at her.

"they're all dead, and you were supposed to die too, and those things are zombies," she replied calmly, the smile that was on her face gone now.

I was speechless; I didn't know what to say. "u-um, what do you mean I was supposed to die."

"do you wanna go somewhere else to talk? There's too much open space here," she casually said as she turned her back and began to walk.

"I guess," I said quietly as I followed her.
