Chapter 1 - A GREATER NARCISSUS

You stopped trying, You stopped caring, you feel the ease, the relief. You love yourself with overwhelming self-centeredness. One greater than that of Narcissus.

The fingers pointing at you, calling you out. You took notice of their different shapes and sizes, fingers belonging to people with different faces.

They say you've changed you are no longer who they use to know, their breath is hot as fire, their words scorching as the desert Sun. It's breathtaking how you feel absolutely nothing. Their reproach and scorn got nothing on you.

While their voices barked at you, demanding some sort of explanation, you couldn't help but wonder if you needed another manicure, barely been a week since you got the last one, oh my! What lovely nails you've got, you began thinking to yourself.

Poor you, broken beyond repair. There was a time you cared wasn't there? Just for the heck of it, you began unveiling those faces pointing and calling you out, just as you headed to get yet another manicure.

The one with the unusually large head was your uncle, his voice the thickest and his fingers the dirtiest. He had a drinking problem, one you helped him stop. Paid for his rehab sessions and all, before his drinking addiction he lost his job, you stepped in, you took care of him and his family whilst he had no job. Yes your heart was that big.

You smiled and nodded happily as the attendant asked if you were there for another manicure.

The next face you unveiled was that of your beloved parents, how you loved them both dearly, of the seven children you were the only one who kept in touch checking on them without fail, driving from coast to coast two weekends a month.

The next faces were that of your siblings, your friends and your wife.

4years of marriage no kids because neither of you wanted to have one. She just woke up one morning and told you she needed space, she needed her own time, she was sick and tired of being together with you for 4years, she needed to travel, see the world make new friends, and not breathe the same air with you.

You cried as a two-year-old would. You begged, promised to change, you'll do better than you ever did because you knew you would. All pleas fell on deaf ears.

You were there for your friends and family, readily available to anyone who needed help financially or emotionally.

You were everyone's favorite person because you were always available and you cared too much.

It's been two years since your big break, you were rich but you became even richer, you were never famous so the fame was something you were still getting used to, Two years of self-absorption, self-love, and self-centeredness.

Two years of being a greater Narcissus.

3years ago after the wife left you with nothing, she got the house, and due to depression you lost your job and moved back in with your parents. You were welcomed with open arms, love, and care at least for the first two months. However the warm reception changed, it began to feel like you were a burden and for some reason, they were no longer excited to see as they once were.

You were thinking of what could have sparked the sudden change in attitude, that's when it occurred to you that they had been making trouble with your ex-wife. They wanted to get back your house against your instruction to let it go.

You got into a heated argument with both your parents and decided it was time you left. You had probably overstayed your welcome.

You lived with a friend of yours for 8months and lived in a trailer for 2.

That was the worst year of your life. You began your transformation same time the wheel of good fortuned turned in your favor.

The crazy thing about being rich and famous is the paparazzi, they were everywhere, as your work progressed your fame skyrocketed.

Your parents told the truth as they spoke to the paparazzi. You got them nice cars and gave them a substantial amount of cash when you got your first big paycheck but you never graced them with your presence in two years, no phone call no messages no nothing.

Your friends said the same thing no one has heard from or seen you in two years, but you gave them cars and cash gifts.

The wife decided to relish the attention from the paparazzi and gave them something to talk about. She still loves you, even though you cheated on her and left no matter how much she pleaded with you to stay.

She probably saw the mansion and recently updated net worth on the Forbes list, you smiled as you continued sunbathing. The beach on that side of Miami had never looked more beautiful.

You are certain that this will be the new you forever, just before taking a swim you admired your reflection how beautiful you looked, the scent of your body fused with the water. You are happier then ever because you care about nothing, you care about non but yourself.

You're convinced that anyone who took a swim on this part of the beach would love themselves a little too much.
