Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Freshie's Week

Freshmen week was coming up. I was so excited. There would be game booths and food stalls all around campus. We would also get to sign up for different organisations. I was thinking maybe I'd try photography club. I was told we would automatically be part of the college guild and that should be interesting also.

I was talking with Ken and Neena happily when Mr. Valero, our adviser called me.

"Gray, as class representative, you will be part of the Freshmen week committee. There will be a meeting later at 5PM in the student welfare building."

"Sir, what would I have to do?"

"Oh it should be simple stuff. Decorations and planning, mostly. You'll know exactly later at the meeting."

"Okay. Thanks sir." I smiled politely.

To: Neena

N, where are you?

*Ding*

From: Neena

The usual place. We saved you a seat. Do you want me to order for you? Ano gusto mo?

I thought of going to our favourite bubble tea place but decided I should just wait for the meeting. I didn't want to be late and make a bad impression.

To: Neena

Class rep duties. Can't go. 😫

The student welfare building was on the other side of the campus. The part I've gone to only a few times. I walking around and trying to figure out where it was when I bumped to a guy.

"I'm sorry." I immediately said without looking.

When I finally arrived at the meeting place, I entered nervously. What do I say? Who do I talk to? Ughh!! What have I gotten myself into? Okay! My goal for the meeting is to be tasked with as little as possible. I wanted to enjoy the event rather than run around, busily organise it.

The meeting ended with me as the one to coordinate with the student council. I don't really know what had happened. The goal to do nothing and I ended up with a pretty heavy responsibility. The thing about me is I CANNOT SAY NO. I am a people pleaser and so when they said I should do it, I just said "yes". Gray, what's wrong with you?

Neena said that at least my task was in preparation. I wouldn't need to do anything during the actual event. The silver lining is, I could actually enjoy everything we'll be organising. I happily reminded myself of that fact.

I started driving to school for this period. I borrowed my sister's car so my mom doesn't have to wait for all my work to be done. Neil and Ty have offered to give me a ride but I was too shy to accept it.

The next few days were me running around from one building to another. I had so many papers needed to be signed and approved. I had to talk with the college and the university wide student council which were situated in the student welfare building. I did not realise this job would be this daunting. Ken and Neena helps a lot but they can only do so much. It was still me who had to do most of the work. I will be able to enjoy the event, I reminded myself.
