Chereads / Hitman of ICARUS / Chapter 24 - Conscience II

Chapter 24 - Conscience II

When night came, I ordered 2 of my men to follow me for the whole night. I took one of the cars in the garage and went back to where I was this morning.

I asked one of my men to drive towards the coffee shop near Priyanka's house and to have them both stay in the car.

"No need to follow me inside. Just stay in the car and alert me if you see anything suspicious in the surrounding."

The two both looked hesitant to separate from me, but still nodded their heads in agreement.

I then entered the coffee shop and surveyed the surroundings. There were just a few customers so I quickly found Priyanka handing out a coffee to a customer from the counter.

I approached her and ordered a coffee of my own.

"One freshly brewed coffee for me. No creamer."

"...it's you. From earlier. What are you doing back here?"

"I just came to grab a coffee...and also. I forgot my mask and ring back at your house."

"...is that so? Then, would you mind waiting for a bit? My shift is about to end."

"Sure."

She prepared my coffee for me while I waited in the counter. No matter how many time I see her work, I still can't help but be amazed.

She was wearing tinted glasses so at first glance she won't be mistaken for a blind person, because she was moving and navigating the surroundings like she could actually see around her.

After making my coffee, she handed it to me and I sat down near a couple.

The guy had a curly hair and his partner is a noisy red haired girl. I could tell from the guy's facial expressions that he's annoyed to the core, but the girl still continues to talk about nonsensical stuffs.

After downing my first coffee, I ordered another one and after I drank it all too, Priyanka had already finished changing to her casual attire.

I went outside, after paying up, to order my men to park somewhere near Priyanka's house. Then I waited for her to leave the shop too.

After waiting for another minute, she finally went for the door along with the couple that I was looking at earlier. I called her and she approached me.

"Thank you for waiting for me."

"Sure."

I saw her complexion turn pale suddenly. I thought it was because of me so I asked her.

"What's wrong?"

"...oh. Nothing...its just. That man."

I looked at the man who just went outside the shop along with the red head. He looked just like an ordinary person.

I sensed no ill aura emanating from him. So why is she frightened?

Then Priyanka urged me to walk as she told her story to me.

"Me and mother as well as my sister. Were all kidnapped and shipped to here. And I remember that man's presence back then in the ship."

"....so how did you escape all that?"

"A man arrived and helped us escape. Then the three of us walked for the whole day with the last of our money, until we arrived in this city and found the abandoned house we're currently staying at. My mother took my sister to find a suitable work while I cleaned the house after applying for work in the shop. Then you came the same night."

'So she's not as innocent as I thought her to be.'

"Has your mother and sister returned yet?"

"They should be coming back home by now."

We walked silently after that small conversation until we arrived in front of her house.

She offered me to come in and wait at the small living room while she go get my mask and ring.

When she got back with my mask in her hand, I heard a loud banging noise on her door while a man screams.

"Open this door babe! I told you I would come back!"

I quickly grabbed her and covered her mouth before whispering "Keep quiet" in her ears as she nodded in agreement.

I then took my mask from her hand and wore it. The wooden back door would break any minute now by the man's forceful banging. So I went and grabbed a knife from the kitchen and hid on the corridor.

The door finally couldn't handle it anymore and was forcefully brought down by the man outside.

When he got inside and saw Priyanka standing in the living room, I heard his steps quickly rushing at her as he laughed.

I timed my attack and suddenly appeared from the corridor to stab him in the gut and twisted the knife inside him.

The man vomited blood and had a look of surprise in his eyes before falling on his knees.

I looked towards the door and saw another man staring at me with widened eyes.

I focused my vision on him and saw the surroundings slow down for a bit. I then threw the knife at his throat before he could react.

The man was quickly killed and fell on the cold floor as I approached him to grab the knife.

When I got outside and looked around, I saw another man from afar with cigarette in his mouth.

He repeatedly toggled his gaze from me to his friend's corpse. Then he threw his cigarette to the floor and started running.

Since he was too far away already, I did not follow him and instead went back inside and grabbed Priyanka's hand.

She was really confused at what is happening but I assume that she knew that someone just got killed based on the stench of the surroundings.

I pulled her towards the front door, when it suddenly opened and a middle-aged lady appeared along with a girl, probably the age of 12.

I looked at them and saw their confused and surprised expressions. The mother then redirected her look towards the dead body in the kitchen and covered her child's eyes.

"Wh-what is happening here?! Who are you?! W-what are you doing with Priya?!"

She asked me with mixed emotions. But I did not have the time to leisurely explain everything to them now.

Reinforcements from the Misuzukis will come as soon as they heard the report, and we need to leave this place as soon as we can if we don't want to be swarmed by dozens of men brandishing their own manufactured katanas.

I took out my phone and ordered the 2 of my men to pick us up immediately. The mother was still having an extreme break down as she cried and shouted at me while covering her little daughter's eyes, when my men suddenly appeared outside the house with the car.

I ordered them to put the mother and daughter inside the car, they had to do it forcefully because the mother was still having a break down while the daughter is crying really hard.

I looked at Priyanka and saw her expression turn really worried and was on the verge of crying.

I didn't notice earlier but I was still holding her hands. I squeezed it tight and took her inside the car too.

I looked back at the broken back door and saw the Misuzuki men. They pointed at us and shouted "they're still here!"

I quickly went inside the car too and urged my men to drive. The Misuzukis quickly approached the car and stabbed the wind shield, which hit one of my men inside but fortunately it wasn't fatal.

The car accelerated as fast as it can and left the raging men in the dust.

-------

While driving, I had a really hard time calming the mother and trying to explain everything.

But with the help of Priyanka, we successfully calmed down both the mother and the daughter.

I then proceeded to explain what just happened and what's going to happen now.

I told them everything. Even the fact that I was the reason for their predicament.

And as of now, I can see initial hostility and anxiety in their expressions. But I can handle that later.

For now, Iasked Priyanka's mother her name as well as the little girl before saying my first name.

"My name's Kyle."

I learned that the mother's name was Shayel while the little girl was Prisha.

Then I told them what was going to happen to them now

"Since I was the one who brought the trouble, its only fair that I help you, right?...so why don't you work for me starting tomorrow?"

Mrs. Shayel looked at me confusedly and asked.

"What kind of work?"

"You guys would just need to take care of my house. You could have the guest house in the back and I will give you a monthly salary."

I explained to them the working conditions some more and finally got Mrs. Shayel and the two to accept.

Since we're still inside the territory of the Misuzuki, we could not take the road and instead went to the harbor to take a boat back to our territory.

When we got to the harbor, we left the car on the side of the road and went for our boat.

Looking around the harbor, we only saw one lone boat other than the one I prepared. Nearby is a police car but I did not see any officer around.

I did not think too much into it and quickly got onto the boat with the others. The boat was a medium sized yacht with the steering wheel located inside a small room with windows.

After everyone already got into the boat, my men drove it and quickly left the boarders of the city.

The atmosphere on the boat as we sailed, was quiet and made me uncomfortable so I went out the back and gazed at the sea.

I heard a footstep from behind me so I looked back and saw Priyanka steadily approaching me while trying to maintain her balance.

I took her hands and helped her grab the handrails before letting go of it.

She then closed her eyes and felt the cold breeze of the night. Looking at her beautiful face, I thought about what she said earlier.

'If what she said was true. Then they must've been targeted by the AlPen gang's human traffickers. And there's a high risk that their men will track her and her family to tie up loose ends..... So if I'm going to tie up my own loose ends, I'd need to start with the man she pointed at earlier.'

I was still thinking about my plan to eliminate the Curly haired man back at the coffee shop, when Priyanka suddenly asked me while her eyes are still closed.

"Why are you helping me?"

I looked at her face and answered her after a short pause and a sigh.

"Because of my damned conscience."

As I said that, we heard a loud explosion back on the harbor. My men accelerated even more and got full alert.
