"Come on, Mace," Ilona said the words, feeling hot tears slide over her cheeks. "Come on, my love!"
After spending a lifetime on the water, Ilona had seen more people nearly drown than she could ever count. She knew what to do to help them and she would do it now. She put the heel of one hand against Mason's chest and locked her other hand over it. She braced herself beside him and pushed down hard.
The world around them fell away as Ilona performed chest compressions on the man before her. The roar of the ocean was gone. The threat of the dragons overhead was gone. Even the freezing cold and pain she felt all over seemed to have momentarily vanished.
Ilona's hands came off his chest only long enough for her to tilt his head backward and pinch his nose. She took a deep breath and locked her mouth over his. How she wished he would simply wake up and bring her lips to his for a kiss instead.
