"That was risky," Mason spoke in a low voice as they moved out of earshot of the pirates.
"Maybe," Ilona said, "But it worked."
"For you," Mason looked at her disapprovingly, "You won't be the one up the mountain trying to find a dragon with Jennings slowing you down... And you know the man will be panting and wheezing so loud it will wake up every beast on this damned island."
"Well," Ilona smirked, "At least if a dragon chases you, Jennings will be the first to be caught. Surely he would fill up the creature, and it would give up its chase."
Mason folded his arms over his chest, not pleased with her teasing. Ilona giggled before going up on her toes to kiss his cheek.
