Ilona stood in the middle of the cave, frozen in place. Her mind was struggling to take in everything that had just happened.
Mason was gone. She had treated him terribly, and now he'd left her there alone. It sounded like he might not come back either. If he didn't, Ilona knew she had no one to blame but herself.
But... what about what he had said?
He loved her.
Remembering the sound of him saying those words made a happy warmth melt over Ilona. Mason loved her. No man had ever loved her before. Not like this.
But she had ruined it with her anger and impulsive lashing out.
She had been kissing Mason and suddenly felt sure she wanted to do everything else with him as well. She had been scared but wanted it anyway. After building up her nerve, Ilona told him she wanted him, only for him to turn her down.
Mason had turned her down.
