Ilona hesitated for a moment but then looked up as Mason had instructed. Her breath immediately caught in her throat, and her eyes went wide. Beside her, she heard the low rumble of Mason chuckling at her reaction. She blinked a few times, and her hands flew to cover her mouth. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.
All above them, covering the entire ceiling of the cavern, were millions and millions of the most beautiful crystals Ilona had ever seen. They were all shapes and sizes and were every color she could have imagined. They sparkled, reflecting the torchlight. Ilona thought they looked as if someone had managed to capture armfuls of stars and store them here for safekeeping.
"Oh, Mason," she whispered as if she was afraid she might scare them away, "This has to be the most beautiful sight I've ever seen."
