"What is it?"
Mason hurried to Ilona's side and joined her in looking out the windows in the Captain's cabin. Outside, the waves had grown choppier, topped with white foam. The skies were much darker than he had expected as well.
"What... What was that sound?" he asked quietly, nervous now.
Ilona bit at a nail and stared out at the rough sea as her mind raced. Mason saw the fear in her eyes and reached out to lightly touch her arm. She jumped and dropped her hands.
"It-It was lightning," she answered, "I need to get back above deck, Mace... You were right. I... I've made a mistake."
She turned and looked up at him, and when she did, he saw the worry in her eyes.
"You and Nick were right," she whispered, shaking her head, "This storm is going to be dangerous. If the lightning is already so close that it sounded like that..."
