Mason stared at Ilona as her words echoed in his mind.
His reputation?
He had known there was a chance she might have heard about his reputation, but it had seemed unlikely. Who would have told her anything?
His heart sank when he realized the only people who could have talked to her about him were his cousin Vincent, Vincent's wife Delaney, and Ilona's brother Ian. Three people, he considered his closest friends.
What had they told her about him? Mason could tell by the way she'd disliked him from the start that whatever they told her, it couldn't have been good. Unfortunately, that didn't narrow down his options. His reputation was what it was for a reason.
Still, he would have hoped three of his best friends might have tried to paint him in a better light. They knew him beyond his reputation, after all.
The knowledge that they must not have done so hurt him.
