Back at the quiet city house, Vincent Adair was waiting for their return, and when he saw the state they were in, he was astounded.
"What happened?" he demanded, looking between the three of them.
Delaney stepped forward, taking his hand and leading him to the sitting room. Ilona excused herself to go to her room, and no one questioned it.
Ian watched her go before following the Duke and Duchess. He joined Delaney in explaining to her husband what had happened. They hadn't gotten very far into the story when Vincent's displeasure began to build until it erupted.
"That's it," he snapped the moment they had finished, "We're leaving here. My cousin has lost control of his court, and I don't want to be in the city as things worsen. First, there are heirs to the throne being murdered, and now our guest gets attacked by his mad sister-in-law, who he's also forcing his younger brother to marry. It's too much."
