The wolf picked me up in its jaws, looked around one last time, then started off toward the trees. It was running in one direction for a while, then turned left, then right, then right again. Soon we arrived at a clump of oak and pine trees. The trees were clumped in a sort of circle, and there was a small opening at the base between two big pine trees. A soon as we walked in, I was surrounded by noise. I was surprised at how well the trees crept the sound out. There were wolves scattered all over the place, more pups than adults. The pups were growling, yipping, and playing with one another. One by one, the pups stopped playing and looked at me curiously. One of the adult wolves padded over, took one look at me, then started growling at the wolf I was being carried by. Don't ask me how I know this, but it sounded like they were arguing back and forth. Finally, the wolf set me down by the base of its tail, looked back at the other wolf, and howled.
