Finding an unexpected friend in an unknown place, amidst the worst circumstances is like a dream come true. When I first saw Jung Suk, I was practical and didn't wish to believe he was here to help me. But even a little understanding and affection at your most vulnerable time can make you believe that somewhere dreams do come true. Somewhere angels roam with wings and halo over their heads and an honest and pure soul inside. Now I was certain about one thing, every entity that gets in touch with the human world gets tainted with all the unholy human emotions, even the angels.
I could hear Jung Suk kick the door in anger and Mr Kim apologised to him again. "Stacey please let me explain.", he said banging the door a hundredth time now. After the huge revelation of his true intentions, I felt safe locked inside my room than being with him. I had already called Chan to come and pick me up. Being all worked up with the idea of my apartment being haunted, he was more than happy to come and get me to a safe place. "Stacey, I swear you are overthinking his words. At least give me a chance to explain.", Jung Suk banged on my door again. Jung Suk could easily get through the door being an angel and so could Mr Kim, but I was relieved that they knew how to stay within boundaries. I picked a duffel bag from the almirah and started to put some clothes and other accessories in it. I know I should give Jung Suk a chance to explain, but right now what I needed the most was a place where I feel safe. I needed a little time to figure out what all is happening in my life and whom should I trust.
I was done packing when the doorbell rang. Jung Suk and Mr Kim went towards the door, most probably planning to scare the guest away, but I unlocked the door getting their immediate attention. "Song!", Jung Suk came and his eyes were full of hope. Hope that things could go back to the way they were a few hours back. I ignored him and went straight for the door. I opened the door and Chan was patiently waiting for me. "Come inside, I am almost done packing.", I said and he entered. He was shocked when he saw what a mess the apartment was in. These two supernatural beings were so busy trying to get me out of the room, that they forgot to clean up their mess. Now I had to deal with them and also find a nice excuse to explain all the broken vases, utensils on the floor and flour colouring every inch of the room white. "What happened here Miss Song?", Chan asked moving across the room slowly and examining it. "I don't know. I fell asleep and woke up to a strange noise and when I came out the room was in this condition. That is why I called you.", I lied. Well, it was not a complete lie. "Wait! You are not going anywhere!", a voice interrupted. Jung Suk was now standing right behind me and his eyes held anger and guilt. I looked away. "Chan, you find a place to sit. I will be out in just a minute or two.", I said and went inside followed by a very angry Jung Suk.
I deliberately kept the door open but Jung Suk closed it with too much force. I got startled by the loud 'thud' and glared at him. "No! you don't get to be angry all the time. Why are you going with Chan?", he asked, his voice booming in the room. I looked at him in disbelief. First, he has the audacity to hide the fact, that I am going to die and now he thinks he can also dictate my freedom. "And why do you care? Oh, your little peace offering to grim reaper will be gone and your dear Kim Song will die?", I replied, each word laced with sarcasm. I could see him controlling his anger. His jaws clenched and his hands were now closed tightly in fists making all the veins pop out. He walked in my direction and held me tightly by my shoulders and pushed me into the wall behind me. "Why don't you let me explain!", he yelled in my face giving my shoulders a little jerk. I moved my head in the other direction, showing I am still not ready to accept his explanation. His grip on my shoulders loosened and soon his hands were not on my shoulder. He was still staring at my face intensely making me squirm under his gaze, but I also held my ground. Suddenly he looked away and punched the wall with a lot of force, making me close my eyes in fear. I might have even let out a little shriek. After punching the wall, he turned around and said, "Leave! I won't stop you anymore.", and with this, he left the room. I noticed he just jumped from the window. I was still in shock at that massive punch that I couldn't move a muscle to see if he was okay after jumping from my window. I looked at the wall and there was a crack showing Jung Suk's anger and maybe disappointment. I sat down on my knees and let the tears fall freely. I had been strong for too long.
I could feel a void inside me. At this moment I had no idea if this was because of Jung Suk's disappointed gaze still haunting me, or because he kept secrets from me. And then I wondered, Jung Suk entered my life just a few hours back and I was expecting him to tell his secrets. Was it logical? How can someone spill their secrets just after a few hours of knowing each other? "But that secret involved you, and it was a matter of life and death.", a voice in my head said. I nodded approving the argument presented in my favour. I picked up my bag but before I could leave, there was still one more thing I had to do. I walked to the window and peeked outside. There were no traces of Jung Suk, so I assumed he must be okay. He is an angel after all. And don't angels have wings to fly? I wondered and holding my bag tightly I left the room.
"Miss Song, let me take the bag for you.", Chan said taking the bag from my hands. My eyes were on Mr Kim who was looking at me with guilt dripping off his face. "Don't leave.", he said but I looked away. "Let's go Miss Song.", Chan said and walked towards the door, holding the door open for me. I was about to walk towards the door when I realised, I forgot to keep something really precious. I ran inside the room and picked up my little red lonely diary from the table. It was my only shot at survival. Clutching the diary close to my chest I left the apartment. Chan locked the door behind me, unaware that there were still a murdered ghost and a beautiful angel living inside. With my head hung low I followed Chan quietly. The moment we came out of the elevator at the ground floor I got surrounded by four buffy men. They were in black clothes, with goggles and air pods, I assumed they were Kim Song's bodyguards. As we stepped out of the building dozens of reporters came and attacked me with their cameras, mics and their questions. The bodyguards somehow managed to get me in the car without a scratch. Chan drove as fast as he could, but my eyes were still stuck on my apartment visible from the back window. And then my eyes met the most beautiful and conversant eyes. I can't clearly tell if they did meet in reality or not, but I just felt like they did meet. On the roof of the building, sitting with his legs crossed was my angel, Jung Suk. And that is when I saw, he had wings. It was the most beautiful yet heart-breaking moment for me. And all I could think was, 'Will I regret leaving the place that felt like home, to look for a safe haven?'.
