"Weekend getaway?" Justin asked Anna.
Justin is the person she met in the afternoon at the mansion. He is someone she trusts. Well, compared to Aiden and others, Justin is relatively trustworthy and reliable.
"Yes. I need some time to relax." Anna answered.
"Going with your ex boyfriend I guess." Justin asked.
"How could you be so sure?" Anna questioned in return.
"From your voice. You sounded a bit excited and happy. It's been a long time since I heard that in your voice."
"I can tell that it is because of your ex boyfriend. Besides that, you wouldn't have got an idea of getaway if it weren't for him." Justin deduced.
"Like always, you know me the best." Anna said.
"No need to flatter me, Anna. I will create some distractions and keep him busy for two days. As for others…" he stopped.
He can't help Anna with Brianna, Clinton and the triplets. Allen will be a handful and moreover, it's the weekend! Even he has things to do.
"I will take care of them." Anna assured him.
"Happy weekend, Anna. As I said, I don't care about anything until you are happy." Justin said.
"Thank you." Anna sincerely thanked before ending the call and calling her people to make arrangements for triplets.
"A subordinate of a third generation heir met me today. He wants me to meet him tonight after work. Let him be the bait to distract triplets."
"I will be going out this weekend. I want the triplets to be busy and distracted. You can do whatever you want but I don't want them to know that I am out of the city with Mr. Fletcher." Anna sent out some orders.
After confirming that Brianna and Clinton are on camping and won't be coming back before the weekend ends, she went back to the mansion and packed her bags and disguised herself.
Not very long after that, Aiden sent her the location where they will be meeting to embark on their getaway.
—-----
Anna drove her car to the location and to her surprise that's the edge of the cliff.
It's a scenic spot with greenery everywhere.
Unlike the bustling city she saw at the hotel a few days back, this cliff has a natural view. The sun had already set and the sky was filled with stars and a full moon.
The greenery beneath the cliff is twinkling with golden light emitted by the lamps placed in the forest.
It's a beautiful scene.
Anna felt her heart lighten. A small smile crept across her lips as she took in the beauty of nature.
She didn't notice Aiden who just alighted his car. And, Aiden is in no hurry to interrupt her as well.
The main theme of this getaway is to cheer her up. If this scene in front of her is making her happy, so be it.
He took up a picnic bedsheet and laid it on the grass before taking out the wine, desserts and sandwiches he brought with him.
A light supper wouldn't be bad.
Although he was quiet, it did alert Anna. She tightened her hand which was resting on the knife in her jacket and was about to make a move but realizing that it's Aiden, she relaxed.
Everything happened in a time to seconds but Aiden didn't fail to notice the quick changes in her. But he turned blind eye to it and smiled at her gently.
"Supper?" he asked, pointing at the wine glasses, Sandwiches and pastries on the bed sheet.
"Yes." Anna smiled and hurried to sit across from him.
It's her favorite wine, her favorite sandwiches and pastries.
Aiden chuckled and let her attack the food. He knows that she didn't eat much during the banquet.
She didn't have a proper lunch as well, so he predicted that she would be hungry. In addition to that, these are her favorite supper dishes.
"You made the sandwiches?" she asked.
"Yes." he answered. The sandwiches made by him are her favorite.
"Yummy?" he asked with a smile and twinkling eyes.
"Yummy." she affirmed, her whole focus still on sandwiches. It's been a year since she had the taste of these, so she simply couldn't stop.
Aiden looked at her dotingly. Seeing this carefree version of her, he was reminded of the past Anna who was cute, carefree and simple.
"Thanks for making them. I missed these for breakfast." Anna said finishing the last sandwich.
It is only when she realized that he hadn't eaten a bite.
"You didn't even touch the food! I am sorry I ate all the sandwiches." Anna said apologetically.
"I made them for you so, it's fine. You can just make the pancakes tomorrow for breakfast. It will be even." Aiden told her.
He loves the oatmeal pancakes she used to make for him.
"Sure." Anna grinned and all of a sudden silence engulfed them.
This conversation reminded them of their past interactions.
Those days were best.
Simple and usual but sweet and fulfilling.
They couldn't help but look into each other's eyes.
They could sense the yearning swirling in them. It's obvious that they are missing that time.
The close proximity, the sweet silence, the emotions brimming in their eyes made the environment ambiguously romantic.
Even before they noticed, their faces were just an inch apart.
Their breath turned heavy.
They almost kissed. If not for Anna who came into awareness and retracted, they would have kissed.
"I… I am sorry." Anna apologized and moved away. Aiden didn't miss the teary eyes.
He took a deep breath and composed himself.
"From tomorrow morning, let's go according to what we planned." he told her.
They are talking about their decision of spending this weekend like strangers who just met.
Anna nodded her head.
It's already late, so they are gonna sleep as soon as they reach, so they could start tomorrow.
And, she believes that Aiden won't make it difficult for her tonight.
"Shall we go?" he asked, standing up.
Soon, they cleaned up and got into the car.
