Chereads / Tokyo Ghoul; reAwakening / Chapter 3 - Acceptance

Chapter 3 - Acceptance

Sirens in the distance bounced off the walls in the distance. I just stood there, staring at my hands, the blood, the body.

"I- I did this?"

My voice was shaking. My body trembled. I'm scared. Why was this happening to me? Did I do something wrong? I was just trying to help that family.

"Hey!"

An unknown voice filled my head and silenced my thoughts. I looked around the alley but saw no-one.

"Up here!"

I followed the direction of the voice. There was a figure standing on the ledge at the top of one of the buildings. They motioned for me to come to them.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Not important right now. Those sirens are getting closer and your still standing in the center of the crime."

I focused back in on the sirens. The figure was right. The sirens were minutes away.

"Hurry!" Their voice was muffled by something. I couldn't see what.

"How? I can't climb the side of a building and I don't see any ladders."

"Just start running!"

The figure disappeared over the wall. I stood there for a second, processing. I looked deeper into the alley. It didn't look like a dead end. I began running deeper in. My agility was quicker than it used to be.

"Turn left!"

It was the same voice as before. I took a hard left and ended up on the street.

"Don't stop! Keep going!"

The sirens had multiplied. They found the body. I started running again. I crossed the street and took another alley.

-20 MINUTES LATER-

I fell backwards, exhausted. I landed hard but was too tired to care. The figure was looking down at me again from the rooftop of the building next to me. They stood there staring.

"Who- who are you?" I asked still catching my breath.

They stood from their hunched position and stepped forward, off the roof. They fell for about 3 seconds before landing a few yards away. From this distance I could make out more details. They were wearing a rabbit mask. They had long pink hair that hung from under their hood. It was girl.

"My name isn't that important right now. What was that? That was Nishio's hunting ground."

I was confused.

"Hunting ground? Who's Nishio?"

She looked annoyed.

"Nothing. You're a ghoul, a recently changed one too."

My mouth went dry. Of course I already knew what I'd become, but I wasn't ready to accept it yet. I didn't want to believe. I just wanted to go back to my normal life.

"Yeah. I'm new at this."

I didn't want to, but I had to. I had to get used to my new life. Whether I wanted it or not it was happening.
