Chapter 1 - 1 Arielle

"Can we leave yet?" Becca doesn't even bother looking up from her phone. She's sitting at one of the tables, probably texting. She's been asking Tara, my roommate and best friend if we could leave for the last half hour now.

My step-sister Isabella's wedding has been over for a while and she's long gone, should be on the plane by now. They're on their way to New England for the honeymoon.

A lot of the guests stayed since there's an open bar, for another fifteen minutes anyways. "I'm so bored." Tara rolled her eyes at her little cousin. She's only sixteen. The ten years age difference between Becca and the both of us is like night and day.

Tara gives her a frustrated sound. "I told you like a hundred times we have to wait for Jace. Remember he's staying at your moms for a few weeks and we need to give him a ride. The bus station is around the corner and he should be here any minute now." She Checked her watch for the second time in the last ten minutes.

Looking around I notice the staff is starting to clean up the pink and gold table cloths, chair covers, along with the empty cups and plates people left lying around everywhere. Most of the people that stayed are on the dance floor or hanging out at the temporary bar. My mom and stepdad are dancing around like crazy people. My mom hasn't talked to me other than a simple 'hi' when I walked into the party four hours ago.

"Arielle, can I use your phone to text Jace? My phone just died." I turn back to her, she's looking down at her screen just in time to see her smart phone screen turns off. "I need to see where he is. Before I strangle this girl." Giggling at her last comment, I grab my phone out of my clutch and hand it to her.

"Just call him, it'll be way faster." she dialed his number and waited. It didn't take long for her to start talking. "Hey Becca I'm going to run to the bathroom before Jace gets here. When she gets off the phone tell her 'don't leave me'." Tara and Becca are wearing the same dress that I am but in different colors. I helped Isabella pick out for her bridesmaids so we didn't have to wear something horrible but she wanted us to wear different colors of the same dress.

"Yeah sure. I don't think it will take long. Jace doesn't like talking on the phone he'd rather text." She finally looked up from her phone but it didn't last long.

"I don't really wanna wait to get to your mom's house." Getting up from my chair, I walked toward the bathroom. Glancing back, she was looking at her phone again. Moving around a table, I tripped over a carpet that was lifted at the corner. As my body jolted forward, I smacked into something hard that wasn't there a minute ago. Cold liquid ran down the front of me. It's wet and sticky. I looked up at what I ran into. He's way taller than me. I have to strain my neck to look at his face.

"What the f…" I watched the guy hang up his phone and put it in his pocket. I bend down to pick up his empty glass and put it on the closest table. He Bent down trying to wipe it off his jeans with the back of his hand.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." I grabbed a cloth napkin from the same table to help try and clean him up, but he waved his hand to stop me. Instead I attempted to clean my dress. Giving up almost instantly, I put the napkin down. At Least it's only a bridesmaid dress. The guy has broad shoulders, his sweater is snug in just the right way. His hair is dark brown hair with a curl to it. He's absolutely gorgeous until he opened his mouth.

"Unbelievable! I just got that drink! Are you that drunk or did you forget how to..." He finally looks up from his soaked pants and shirt. I could swear his eyes wandered up and down my body gazing at me for half an instant, I must have imagined it, he's way too rude to be checking me out. Electricity shot through me when his light green eyes stared at me. Ignoring the warm feeling that overtook my body I focused on my wet dress. As any normal girl would do when she's mad, I put my hands on my hip.

"I said sorry. I tripped but if you're going to be a jerk about it you can shove the sorry up your a..."

"Hey now, Is that how you talk to someone you just met when you spill their drink, all over them I might add." What the hell is this man's deal one minute he's yelling at me and the next he's flirting?

"It's all over me too. If you haven't noticed." His eyes wander over me once again.

"Oh I've noticed alright." I need to leave before I say something he won't like. I made it halfway around him when he grabbed me by the arm. He doesn't grab me hard enough to hurt but it does stop me from walking any farther. All the blood in my body rushes to that one spot where he's touching me, not in a bad way either. "I'm not done talking to you." He smirks at me but it doesn't last long. "It's rude to walk away when someone's talking to you." His voice is casual, like we're old buddies having a nice conversation.

"Don't touch me!" His hand slides down my arm and back to his side. "I told you I was sorry. You're the one that started to yell. It's not like I did it on purpose. What the hell do you want from me? Strip you down and hand clean your clothes?" as soon as it's out of my mouth I regret it. That's going to come back and bite me in the ass. And sure enough...

"You just met me with bright eyes and you're already trying to get me out of my clothes? Are all you bridesmaids like this? I know it's a wedding but that's a little fast don't you think?" He's cocky. It almost sounds as if he's trying to hide a laugh. "Maybe if I wasn't meeting someone, I would come home with you."

"Wow, Arrogant much! Sorry to disappoint but it wasn't an offer."

"Hey!" Tara pushes past me and jumps into the dude's arms. Tara's so excited she didn't even realize he was wet. Stepping back from him, I see Becca is close by giving him a brief hug while Tara introduces us. "Jace this is my roommate Arielle. Arielle my cousin Jace, but I guess since you two are talking you know each other?" Damn it! The assholes her cousin. "He just moved back. He's been away at school for a few years, then work and now he transferred here to be close to family." Tara told me. I'm going to be seeing a lot of him then.

"No, we didn't get that far. We never made it past your asshole cousin yelling at me for bumping into him." The glare I gave Jace could make the devil himself flinch, but it didn't seem to faze him one bit. He just grinned at me like I wasn't looking at him like I wanted to kill him in his sleep.

Tara put her hands on her hips, again like most girls do. and tapped her heels impatiently. "Why were you yelling at her?"

He turned to her and the grin dropped from his face in a flash. He put his hands up like he was surrendering. "Hey, I was just minding my own business, trying to find you, then she ran into me and spilled my drink all over the both of us."

"Um, I said sorry to you, I tripped. You're the one that decided my apology was an inconvenience for you and started acting like an asshole. Maybe you shouldn't be drinking, when you clearly can't even walk and talk at the same time." He was Smirking at me again.

Before he could say anything Tara said. "Why did you even have a drink? We're not staying, the party's over." she gestured her right hand around the room to show that everyone was leaving or getting ready to.

"I needed it." She shook her head at him.

"Let's go, it's getting late and I have to get to work in two hours. Arielle also has to get up early in the morning." Realization dawned on me when she turned to me. "Have you even packed for your trip with Mike yet?" Mike Hutson is my boyfriend of six months.

"No, I've been so busy working overtime, so I could take the week off. I haven't had a chance."

"Let's go then." Tara waved her hand above her head, gesturing for all of us to follow her. I guess going to the bathroom is going to have to wait until I get to their aunt Claire's.
