Sharon's POV
''We're over'' I say to Sam and continue walking down the hallway as he has his head in the locker, looking for some books. I saw him pack some books and stuff them into a bag with the corner of my eye as he jogged towards me.
''Wait up'' I heard him say. I stop abruptly and turn towards him so as not to draw any attention towards us from the other students as he walked towards me. Sam had light blue eyes and blonde hair, he was pretty tall and had a body worthy of being on the cover of a vogue magazine but lately he seemed tired. He started having a kind of lazy walk and seemed pale. He had started getting bags under his eyes like he hadn't slept in days
I waited for him to catch up to me as I folded my arms and pushed out one hip.
''Why?'' he said looking at me intensely as he stood in front of me
''Why what?'' I ask playing dumb and trying to get under his skin
''You know what, fine, we're done'' he says exasperated.
''Yeah, I know'' I say and turn halfway around when Sam says
''Can I at least know why you want to break up?'' he says with his desperacy in his eyes.
The desperacy like all the other boys was too much for me to handle so I compel him- I only do this when I want to break up with boys-
''Sam, you're a great guy. You and I both know that we don't have chemistry, there wasn't any click or spark between us. It's best if we both go our separate ways and move on. We both know that what I'm saying is right'' I say looking into his eyes and not breaking eye contact no matter what.
''I know... you're right, See you later friend'' he says almost on cue then waves and walks over to his best friend, John.
I turned towards the opposite direction and walked to my first period. There was a bad feeling I couldn't seem to shake off but I couldn't pin point what it was. It was like being followed by a ghost that kept walking through me and sending chills down my spine.
I walked into class and didn't even hear the voice of my best friend, Maia calling my name. She is a vampire as well. Her father is an advisor and right hand man to mine, so it only makes sense that she is my best friend.
''Are you ok?'' I heard a voice say to me and the movement of a chair on the grey gravel tiles of our class floor towards me.
I look to my left to see my best friend, Maia, sitting next to me with questions and concern written on her face.
I tried to smile and put on a question mark face but she didn't buy it, that's why we make great best friends. We know enough about each other to know when something is wrong.
''What's wrong?'' she asks with a concerned face but also the face she makes when she is determined to get an answer.
''Nothing really, I just broke up with Sam'' I say partially lying
''I'm sorry about that, but do you really expect me to believe that's why? I mean, I'm your best friend. I probably know you more than you know yourself'' She says and I could see the hurt in her eyes.
''Ok, fine. I compelled Sam to believe that separating was good for us...'' I say and pause
''And?'' Maia says noticing my hesitance
''I don't think it worked for some reason but he acted like it did. There's something about him Maia and it feels like death. I don't know what it is but it gave me chills. I can't sense any vampire or werwolf blood in him, so he isn't that. But there is a very strong aura coming from him, Maia and I don't know what it is. Please just be careful around him'' I say pleadingly. I could hear the emotion in my voice and it was very rare for me to let my emotions show like that. I felt like I was having what the humans called a panic attack. I was suddenly aware of our brown wooden tables, and the granite floor and the red-painted walls just made me more aware of the danger I felt.
I then continued as I held Maia's hands in mine, ''Promise me that you'll avoid him Maia, I don't want you getting hurt. I don't know what I'll do if you're gone. We may be immortal but we can be killed. I don't know why he has such a strong effect on me but something tells me that I don't want to find out.''
''It's ok-'' she said now holding my hand in hers ''-I won't put myself in danger and I won't go near him if you don't want me to. And I'm sorry he made you feel this way. But I don't like seeing you this way, please cheer up for me'' she says with a bright beam on her face.
''Ok, I will. For you'' I say and smile back
''Do you think we should tell your father this?'' She asks
''Yeah, we probably should. After school'' I answer back.
I was just about to say something else when our teacher came into the class. We sat up, putting our books on the table before I noticed Sam coming in behind the teacher. I forgot that we were both having this class together. I didn't know why he affected me and I tried to shake off the feeling but it just seemed to grow as he was in closer proximity. He turned toward me and smiled and I forced a smile back and I wasn't sure if it was a convincing one.
I noticed a warm and comforting hand cover mine. It was Maia's. She must have noticed what I felt and tried and comfort me without drawing any attention to us.
Sam couldn't find a seat and I hoped Mrs Matty - our teacher- would send him out before Sam noticed the seat behind us.
''You can sit over there, behind Maia and Shanon'' Our teacher says, uttering the words I dreaded.
Maia then stood up but I held her back and pleaded with my eyes for her not to say anything.
''Is there a reason that you're standing Maia?'' Mrs. Matty says with her eyes glued on Maia. Maia glances at me shaking my head for her to say no.
''Yes, Mrs. Matty. You see, Philip is the boy seating behind Sharon and me. He came early but he excused himself. Maybe he went to the gents or something. But I'm sure he is coming back and he will need his seat'' Maia said and sits down while I hoped that Mrs. Matty will listen and that most of all, that she will be safe.
''Mrs. Matty, I'm sure that Maia doesn't know that Philip left because he is sick and he had to go home. He isn't coming to school for the rest of the day'' John says, crushing my hopes.
''Then, in that case, you can fill that seat for Philip until he is back'' Mrs. Matty says.
She waits for him to settle down before she starts and I couldn't breathe as he passed by Maia and I's table while we established eye contact with him. When he sat down, Mrs. Matty says,
''Now let's get on with English'' like nothing happened and I guess she didn't notice anything unusual in him.
While Mrs. Matty was explaining Shakesphere, I was wondering why I had never had this feeling when I was dating Sam.
Throughout the class, I felt uncomfortable and I had this weird feeling that Sam was watching me like a hungry lion watching a deer it was about to pounce on but I wasn't courageous enough to know if this was true or not.
''If things continue this way, I doubt I'll get the normal life I've always wanted'' I say to Maia after school.
''Why? You can't let one boy decide how your life is going to be'' She said as we walked out of our high school building.
''Besides we'll be writing our SATs in a couple of months so we'll soon be done with high school and you will not have to see him anymore.'' She adds.
''I guess you're right Maia. I was just worried and maybe I was overreacting. Should we go to my dad first before going home?''
''Yeah, we should'' She says
We both climbed onto our black motorbikes and put on our helmets even though we didn't need them.
We drove onto the highway and sped as much as we were allowed to. Riding my bike was something I loved. It always cheered me up and it filled me with so much adrenaline that it sent me to overdrive with joy and passion. I could see that it was the same for Maia as we beamed at each other while riding side by side.
We went off the highway and drove down a path made for people riding like us. It was just a plain sandy path made in the middle of the forest. Humans don't really come here so we vampires, decided this was the best place to make a home.
We laughed as we raced each other to the castle cause here there won't be any police sirens chasing us down and giving us a speed ticket or worse arresting us. It was so much fun that when we got to the castle and parked, we both broke into laughter.
''Why are you two laughing?'' Damien - a vampire who is in charge of the vehicles- asks when he saw us before collecting our keys
''We just had so much fun'' Maia says a bit shyly as he blushed and I could see they liked each other.
''We have to go'' Maia says to him before I could say something
''Oh...sure'' he says as he takes the bikes away. Then he turns and says,'' See you later, I guess''
''Yeah'' Maia replied as he went
We walked into the castle and I didn't know if I should say something or not. I was contemplating when Maia interrupted my thinking process by saying,
''I know you want to say something, just spit it out'' as we turned right down the dark hallway and then up to our L- shaped staircase that went up a few floors.
''It's just that...do you like him?'' I ask
''Who? Damien?'' she asks in return
''Yeah, him''
''Well, yeah''
''Does he know?''
''Yeah, he does but we're not ready yet''
''Oh...ok''
''Yeah, but I mean we will get together one day''
''Ok, I hope so''cI reply truthfully. I really hope she stays happy and finds true love.
''Thanks,'' She says and smiles as we reach the top floor where my dad stays.
We knocked on his door and waited for a while before we got an answer.
My dad opened the door wearing a pair of red black satin pajamas and hotel slippers. His black hair was rough and some of his hair fell onto his face, giving him a hot model look especially as his shirt was buttoned all the way down, showing his rockstar abs.
''Hey, what are you guys doing here at this time. It's early'' he says as he makes way for us to come in
''Dad, we're not street vamps. We have our bracelets so we can walk in the sun'' I said referring to our specially spelled bracelet to make us walk in the soon.
''You guys want a drink? You'll like it'' he said smiling at us
''Yeah'' Maia and I say in unison and then burst into giggles
''Well, here you go'' my dad says as he hands us wine glasses and pours what would look like plain red wine to a normal person but we knew it wasn't that, it was blood.
We tasted it and felt a sweet but string taste fill our mouths. It tasted like ecstasy and gave me a rush. I looked at Maia, her eyes had turned red from the craving she had from the blood, and my eyes were probably like that too. The blood actually tasted the way the quality sweet red wine only the rich could enjoy.
''I know those looks. You guys like it'' My dad says exclaiming and laughing as he drank some more.
I cooled down a little before saying,
''Of course, we like it, where did you get it from?'' I ask still savoring the taste the blood had left in my mouth.
''Well, it's just a mixture I got from the hospital fridge'' he says as he sits down opposite us.
''Can we have a bottle when we leave''
''Yes, of course'' dad says and then adds ''It's weird for you guys to come here on a normal day, so what's wrong?''
