CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT
Nolani tugged at the helm of Chike's trousers and he looked down to see her inquisitive blue eyes. Chike felt like they were judging him for keeping Jason out of orphans' lives for close to a month.
But Nolani was three years old and three year olds had no business judging grown-ups. Maybe it was his conscience, that tiny part of him that was still human…the part that did everything possible to avoid anything innocent like Nolani, Like he was a plaque that could strip an innocent child like Nolani of the very core goodness in her soul.
Chike gently shooed the child away from him but she was persistent and resilient. He was sitting on a lowly bended wooden chair under one of the tree in the compound, far away from the children as possible.
