Chapter 1 - The first day

"So this is the new school I will be attending as of today," he muttered to himself.

He was standing in front of the gate of Tokyo Metropolitan High School. This was the high school he, Kobayashi Kaito, will be attending as of today. He took a deep breath and adjusted his hair a little and took the first step.

He then started walking towards the main building calmly at a regular pace completely befitting a mere 17-year-old boy. Since childhood, he had been surrounded by people of high standards so he had to practice a lot regarding his speech, behavior, and mannerisms. After entering the main building he started walking towards the room with the sign "Director/Principal's Room".

He stood right in front of the door. Slightly raising his right hand, he gently knocked on the door twice.

"Come in" was the short reply that came from the other side of the door after his knock. The voice was feminine and he was quite familiar with the voice.

"Excuse me." Although the word was supposed to be a polite one, his taciturn voice made it sound more business-like.

When he entered the room, two people entered his field of vision. One was the owner of the voice that he had previously heard and which he was fairly familiar with. The other one was a young lady with a brown ponytail tied behind and sharp eyes which gave the impression of a strict teacher.

Paying the young teacher no mind he walked straight and stood in front of the old woman, seated on the Director's chair.

"Good morning, Kaito-kun." The director greeted him in a calm tone to which he gently nodded but spoke no words.

"I guess you are ready for studying in this new high school. Although this school is a bit big in comparison to your previous high school, you will find the atmosphere and teachers no different," said the Director with a genuine smile on her face.

"I don't really care," he replied in his usual taciturn voice without coming off as rude.

"Guess handling this boy will be troublesome." The young teacher who was silently watching from the sidelines sighed after saying so.

So, she had already labeled me to be a problem child? Not that I care anyway.

"You don't have to worry, Fujiki-sensei. Although this boy seems pretty untalkative, he isn't uncooperative. It's not like he will ignore someone who is trying to talk to him to deliberately piss them off." replied the Director. "There are definitely some students who won't like his behavior. But it simply depends on how they perceive his behavior, right? If his behavior stirs some trouble, I will take responsibility. So you don't have to worry, Fujiki-sensei." added the Director.

She knew very well that problems would definitely arise because of him. But she was trying to convince the lady with the ponytail. Judging by her reaction, he guessed she knew full well that the Director was trying to feign ignorance regarding this matter, at the moment.

"Kaito-kun, she will be your homeroom teacher for this year, Fujiki Akari-sensei." The director gave the female teacher's introduction to him pointing towards her to which he slightly bowed in her direction.

"Fujiki-sensei, can you leave us for a moment?"

She politely bowed to the Director and made her way out of the room.

"So now, Kaito-kun."

When she spoke, her voice had a serious tone, a complete 180 from her voice just a while ago.

"You don't have to worry. I was the one to personally handle your admission process so there's no risk of your information getting leaked to the other students or teachers. And I also believe that there is no one in this school who knows of your past except one, that is me."

There was silence in the room for a while.

Both Kaito and the director just kept looking at each other, not speaking anything.

"You should now head towards the classroom. I hope you will be able to lead a healthy high school life."

"I hope so."

If possible, he wanted to avoid getting too involved with others and avoid as much trouble as possible, but it wasn't still clear how things were going to play out in the future.

Kaito, before leaving, bowed his head towards the Director.

When he finally got outside the room, Fujiki-sensei was waiting outside.

"So now, Kobayashi-kun, without further ado let's make our way towards the classroom," she spoke turning towards him.

After leaving the room, they descended the stairs and made their way towards the second floor. The Director's room was on the fourth floor. After arriving on the second floor and passing three classrooms on their left, they stopped at the classroom at the farthest part of the second floor. "Class 2-A" was written in the middle of a silver plate with a bold black font which was slightly above the door.

The classroom was bustling with noise. When the female teacher opened the door, the classroom went into pin-drop silence mode. Without even glancing at her students she went straight towards the podium. Kaito followed suit.

"Good morning class. As you have been informed earlier, he's the transfer student we're having." Then she urged him to speak.

"Hello everyone. My name is Kaito Kobayashi. I look forward to studying with you all." He delivered his introduction in one go, with a calm tone and bowed slightly.

"Okay then, Kobayashi-kun, you will be sitting at the last seat from the right corner." She pointed towards the seat at the back of the class by the side of the window.

Imagining himself sitting there with his chin rested on his hand like a light novel protagonist made him project a wry smile. Of course, he didn't show it on his face.

He then made his way towards his seat, placed his bag, and settled himself. After that, Fujiki-sensei started homeroom.

After the homeroom ended and Fujiki-sensei left, the class again became noisy. She was quite strict. Guess she had to adopt this strict personality to control the class. He thought to himself.

Then after few moments, the students began looking towards him. Of course, he knew that but showed no reaction. Some students were trying to approach him but seeing his behavior, they hesitated.

Then suddenly a girl spoke to him from beside. "Hello, Kobayashi-kun. I am Ichinose Kei and I am also the class representative. You can ask me anything you need. If you want, I can even give you a tour around the school."

"No need." After hearing his reply all the students who were looking towards them, then, turned around rather awkwardly. Even after this curt sort of reply from him, the girl showed no signs of being affected.

She just said, "Is that so. Then fine. But do not hesitate if you have any problems." and sat down in her seat rather elegantly.

He had observed this girl from the moment he sat in his seat. She was throwing cursory glances at him, from time to time. Judging from the observant eyes she had during those glances it didn't seem like she only wanted to greet me. Does she have anything else to say to me?

While he was having those thoughts, the door slammed open. There stood a girl with back-length strawberry-blonde hair and possessed blue eyes with a well-endowed figure.

She was glaring with fierce eyes and looking all over the classroom. Suddenly her eyes landed on him. With heavy and noisy steps, she marched towards his direction and stood right in front of his seat.

"You are the new transfer student, right?" Anger was clear from her voice.

"Yes."

"Then, will you care to come with me for a second? I have some business with you." After saying that she grabbed him by his hand and dragged him out of the classroom. He thought of resisting at first but then concluded that doing so will only heat the situation. So he let him be dragged by her.

Before being dragged out of the classroom he had just one thought on his mind.

My new high school life is turning out to be troublesome from the get-go. But I do hope the current situation has no relation with my past incidents.
