Chapter 19 - Trouble (5.5)

I flip the steak and let it cook for a few minutes. So for today and tomorrow's meal is a steak with the side dishes of mashed potato.

I feel bad for lying at Yuka earlier today. While I was not too fond of it, I think it was the right thing to do. I don't know what will happen if I tell her my secret. So far, the people I meet from the moonlight world (as Yuka called it) are good and kind. Of course, there are a few bastards like that little shit I 'fight' the other day but other than that? All is good.

However, I fear some people are not as kind as Yuka and her family. People that want to take my power, people that are stronger than me. I know that I sound paranoid, but it is good to be cautious rather than get killed later.

I snap from my thoughts when my danger senses scream at me to dodge. Without thinking twice, I dodge to the left and see something stab the floor where I used to be. I looked at it and saw it was a small crossbow bolt.

I use my observation skills and widen my eyes.

Poisoned Bolt|

A crossbow bolt that was created using an enchanted iron to increase its piercing power. The tip of the bolt is covered by poison from a magical snake.|

{Damage: 125 piercing damage}

{Effect: Instant 400 poison damage and 100 poison damage per second for ten seconds}

I look at where the bolt is coming from and see a shadow standing on top of my neighbor's roof. The shadow began to jump from roof to roof toward me after seeing their first attack fail.

Seeing the attacker coming toward me, I take my bow and arrow from my inventory and fire toward the shadow coming at me.

3rd POV|

The shadow looks at his target and fires a crossbow bolt toward his target. Yesterday, Ishiwata Toudou came to the Underworld Guild, bringing a new bounty for them to take with him. However, for some reason, others did not want to take the county given to them by Baron Ishiwata.

If the others did not want it, then it is their loss Arata Matsumoto thought that day.

However, what he did not see was the look of pity the other assassin gave him. Matsumoto did not know that the Himura clan is known throughout the underworld of Tokyo. Even the magical side of the underworld guild knows that you did not mess around with the Himura family.

Sadly, Arata Matsumoto did not know that. He only lived in Tokyo for three months and only joined the Assassin Guild for one month. He thinks that Tokyo is the same as Fukuoka, Kyushu.

So here he is firing his crossbow bolt at Himura Tanaka and gets surprised when he sees that the young man successfully dodges it. Matsumoto knows that his crossbow can fire up a bolt faster than a sniper rifle. So seeing a young man successfully dodge it really impressed him.

Seeing his long-distance attack fail, Matsumoto begins to jump from roof to roof toward his target. As he charges toward his target, he sees an arrow coming at him at high speed. He barely blocks the arrow, and he can feel how heavy that attack is.

That attack alone made his hand tremble from the force.

He snaps from his thoughts when he sees another arrow coming at him. This time there are two of them. He tries to dodge to the right and misses one of the two arrows, but his leg still gets hit by the arrow.

Matsumoto grit his teeth when he feels an intense pain coming from his leg. Seeing his bleeding leg, Matsumoto takes cover behind the chimney, takes a painkiller from his pocket, and eats it.

He can feel the painkiller begin to take effect. He is fortunate to have this painkiller he bought from the alchemist in Fukuoka. Matsumoto takes a vial of potion from his pocket and pours it on his wound. He grits his teeth and endures the pain.

*BOOM*

"ARGH"

Before his wound could even heal up, an explosion happened behind him that threw him to the ground. His back is heavily injured from Tanaka Charged Shot, and if not being taken care of, he will be dead from the blood loss.

Seeing there is no other way to complete the mission, he decides to retreat. He promised that next time he would need to check his target first before he accepted the mission. He swears that he will visit that fat bastard. That fat bastard said that it was an easy target. It was not an easy target. His target is a dragon, and Matsumoto decided to attack the dragon inside its nest.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I frown a little when I see my target getaway. I don't know the reason why someone wants to kill me. While I suspect the culprit is a noble that came to Yuka's house, that is the culprit behind this. But, unfortunately, I cannot say it to Yuka and her father. I did not have enough evidence.
In the rush of battle, I did not have a chance to scan my attacker.
Seeing my sense did not catch anything in my proximity, I released a relief breath.
"Haaa… Who the hell is he? I know from reading too much Xianxia and Wuxia that a young master type of person decides to send an assassin that offends them to try to kill them, but I never thought that it would happen in real life."
I really need a barrier around my house. Urgh, if only I can take the second job right now. I think I can ask Yuka about it. I don't know how much it cost me, but I don't think it will cost me more than six billion yen.
For now, I need to increase my strength. I don't know if there will be another assassin coming at me—a stronger assassin than before. While the Goblin Dungeon is risky, I can get a huge amount of XP from killing the Goblin Levy.
However, this time I need to prepare. The bomb is a wonder in killing the goblin levy.
Hmmm. While the fortress is good at giving me a high ground, it was not good enough to handle many goblins who use their comrade body as a ladder. Also, the spike around the fortress is not as good as I thought it would be.
Not only that, but I also did not have a companion to make the fortress effective. If there is an automatic defensive weapon on the wall and inside, it would be more effective.
No. I only need something to give me a high ground and a few dozen bombs with me and a trap.
I don't know if the army spawns at the same place or not, but it would be a boon to me if it is.
If only I lived in America where I could buy a gun from a Walmart. Japan has a strict weapon law. I can try to buy it from the Black Market of Japan, but I did not know the exact location of this market.
It looks like I can only use the item I get from the System Shop. I got a few thousand ST from the fight against the goblins, but it was not enough to buy what I needed. Meaning that I need to go to the other dungeon.
It looks like I need to explore the Wild Nature Dungeon.
