Philosophies Greatest Question - Why?

Casper was an unstable character with ambitions that could rival only those of the elites, from young he dared not set out on any path unless it led down to his goal of making history. Not for something intangible like being good at games or writing mediocre books but for something he perceived as the greatest honour – to stand alongside the giants that rule. The monsters who decide where power flows, where the money lies and what way that society should advance. He was by nature power hungry; the problem was power-hungry people tend to attract more power-hungry people. He would never have guessed his untimely demise was not due to his many flaws or his irredeemable callousness and methodical cruelty but the people in which his undying trust and loyalty lay.

Most would see him as callous and cruel. A vindictive nature which put him at odds with the majority of the populus. Whilst he genuinely loved no one more than his wife his drive to succeed was the major pushing force that drove him forward through the dark tunnel that was his rocky life and towards a brighter tomorrow. Or that was at least what he thought.

He knew he had a hard path ahead of him from skipping meals to going days without sleep or any form of comfort he tirelessly slaved away so that one day when he finally could ease back, his work would be done, all that would be left would be to watch as his power and influence grew. He neglected his friends and family, even his childhood sweetheart and wife of seven years was cast aside for his greater ambition. Starting from the bottom he scraped every penny, every single action of his from his teen years was for the moment his plan would start. The moment history would be made.

In truth who really knows why he acted like he did.

Was it some greater purpose he was destined to have or was it just greed?
Pure unadulterated greed.
A kind that should not exist on any person, a selfishness beyond the level of evil and into the realms of the unknown.

He would never question why he acted like he did as that would reveal his greatest problem. He was unstable, he was chaotic but beyond all of that, beyond the greed and the misery he caused to all the helpless victims that crossed him, he was broken. A kind of broken that no matter how delicately you tried to place the pieces back together you would only end up shattering them into more infinitesimally small pieces.

If he ever admitted this primal emotion of his that could move mountains and destroy lives was born out of a simple fear he would immediately fall. His fall from grace into the land of despair. Vultures pray on the weak, but humans were worse. A moment of weakness for an animal would lead to a quick death but for a human death would be merciful, life of a chess piece was not a life many could stomach especially such a greedy prideful man. But that was exactly what happened in the end.

It all started and ended in the night of his company's anniversary; it was a joyous occasion to none. A tragedy of cosmic proportions bloomed from the blissful ignorance of Casper. Even in his last breaths he did not change. His resolute convictions filled with his strong feeling of injustice made something outside of the known reaches act, an act that would change him. Whether that change was good or not is left to be decided but as the wine was sipped, as the lights were flashing, an army like no other moved. Commanded by his dearest the army seized his hard work, his lifelong passion snuffed in a single night. Reduced to ashes his legacy lay.

"WHY!"

"WHY DID YOU DO THIS???" Casper roared as his fists flailed smashing into whatever got into his path.

"What about everything I did for you, for us?"

He screamed into the cold abyss but left this cruel cold world with no answers. His stained red hands dangled limply. He was stabbed. His heart was pierced. As his last breath was drawn, in his final moments he saw his dearest smile, a wicked smile. A cursed smile that left all onlookers with a sense of fear.

"Love, you did nothing for us, that was all for you. You are a god in your own world but you entered mine." A heartless declaration left that cursed mouth.

Cruel fate led this once naive woman onto his path, from there they were intertwined, till death do them part. 'Death do us part', an ironic statement when the one you would lie you life down for instead chose to take that precious life and trample on it. Her hands too were stained, living with a monster in human clothing would take a hit on anyone's mentality. Her morality started twisting after a few years of contact and by the time they were married a plan was hatched.

The plan was simple and crude, but it worked.
Love him then take everything, make him overworked so when the eventual day comes, he cannot put up a fight. She amassed an army of loyal followers but unlike Casper she did not put an ounce of trust in them, she had contingency after contingency. She worked on his weakness weaving a web of lies to force her own ideals. In the eyes of the world, she was a helpless widow that wanted to continue her late husbands work but in her eyes was a darkness that no amount of light can ever brighten. Her flame was extinguished through years of living in the chaos.

This was how the CEO and founder of a decently sized company fell, a fall from grace no less dramatic than Icarus themselves.
