As they walked into the Adventure guild, Alex and Varis were greeted with the sight of busy demi-humans looking at the announcements on walls. A thick stack of mission notices covered the walls.
Alex directly walked to the reception as he was not here to get any missions. He was mainly here to register as an adventure and get some identification in this world.
Behind the counter, Alex saw the familiar receptionist and involuntarily clamped his legs shut. It is the bunny girl from yesterday. Alex still remembered how she dealt with the white-tailed rogue.
But after seeing the bunny girl working on the papers, Alex relaxed and walked over.
"Welcome to the Fox town Adventure guild. I am Lily, and how may I help you?" asked Lily.
"Hi, my name is Alex, and I came to register as an adventure."
"Ok, but our branch can only register for 1-star adventurers, and you are required to take a small test. If you want to register your companion beasts, you have to pay extra," said Lily looking at Varis.
"Sure, no problem," said Alex.
"Then please fill these forms," said Lily handing the papers to him. Alex checked the forms and was slightly puzzled.
"Ms. Lily, here, it asks what beast traits do I have. What does that mean?" asked Alex.
"Oh, I am sorry, that form is for demi-humans. It's been a long time a human came to register in this place," said Lily, a little flustered.
"Yeah, I can imagine," said Alex.
"So Alex, How did you come here, in the middle of the Dark Forest?" asked lily while searching for the documents.
"It is a long story. But when I arrived at the Fox town, I witnessed you taking care of the rogue in front of the town wall," said Alex.
"You saw that. That's embarrassing," said Lily, her bunny ears turning pink.
Alex did not buy her harmless to animals and males expression but still continued.
"Yeah, it was a terrific kick. I mean the first one to the temple... the second was more of a terrifying one."
"Ha ha. Here I found your document," said Lily as she handed him the document.
Alex filled in his details. In the city of residence, he wrote down Tyros, where he decided to stay in the near future. He also wrote the details of Varis before handing them to Lily.
"Ok, Alex, you have to take the strength test. Come with me," said Lily while walking over to the next room.
Alex followed her into a room full of dumbbells and barbells.
"Alex, what is the maximum strength you can lift?"
"600 KG (1300 lbs)," said Alex, while keeping his maximum strength of burst state a secret.
"Not bad," she said as she effortlessly put the three weight disks on either side of the bar.
Alex read the weight on the barbell, and it said 100 kg (220 lbs). He was puzzled as the disks were not that thick. However, as he lifted the barbell, Alex can feel the weight. He had to use all his strength to lift the barbell.
"Ok. You passed," said Lily. Alex immediately dropped the barbell.
"Ok, the total fee is 180 silver. From now, you can pick 1-star missions from any branch of adventure guild," said Lily, handing him over a small identity card.
Alex pocketed the identity card while giving her 2 gold coins.
"You can keep the change."
"Thank you for your generosity. You can have this book. It's on the house," said Lily, handing him a small book.
On the cover, it read, 'Adventure guide to Rookies.' Alex put it in his backpack.
"Ms. Lily, is there any good place to buy equipment," asked Alex. He always felt a little insecure with no armor except for the thin clothes.
"I recommend you to buy our 'Basic tool kit for the Rookie adventurers.' It had been tested for ages and is very suitable for rookies," said Lily.
After agreeing, she led Alex to the upper floor, where Alex saw many kinds of leather armors, bows, arrows, and medicines.
Lily showed him a glass display unit in the corner. Inside it was a dark leather armor with a hood, a recurve bow, a dagger, a map, and a compass.
"The leather is made of a Great Bison, which is known for its defense. It has good physical defense and also a little magic defense. It is perfect for Rookies who wanted to start their careers. It comes with a strong bow and a fine dagger. As a bonus, you also get a Scent masking powder and a blood-stopping medicine. All for 30 gold coins," said Lily in an official tone.
Alex also looked at the black bow and asked: "What is the draw strength of the bow."
"The draw strength is 400 kg. The bow is carved from the bones of the bison. It was strengthened by the magic blood of the Great Bison and will not break easily," said Lily.
"Ok, I will take them," said Alex taking 30 gold coins out of the backpack.
"Good, You can change there to see if it fits," said Lily showing a small room.
Alex quickly wore the thick leather armor, and he was a little surprised to find it very comfortable. In the mirror, as he pulled up the hood, he looked mysterious, like an assassin. Alex was satisfied with aesthetics.
He looked at the scent masking powder and smelled it slightly. It smelled like grass and earth. If he had this scent masking powder, he could have safely passed through the Crazy hyena den and would not have been hunted down. He carefully pocketed it with the blood-stopping medicine.
He took out the map and found it similar to the one he had on his smartphone. However, a hard copy is still useful for him. If anyone accidentally finds out about his smartphone, then there will be trouble.
Finally, he took out the recurve bow and pulled it smoothly. After some basic inspection, Alex had no complaints and slung it on his back.
As he came out, he thanked Lily for her help before going downstairs. Varis was in the main hall, trying to read the notices.
"Buddy, everything is done here. We can leave," said Alex.
[Finally,] said Varis before flying off to the skies.
There was still an hour before the start of his next journey, and Alex thought of a good place to visit.
