Chapter 2 - If Charley Says There’s Magic, Then There must be!”

"Vera, are you here to volunteer again?"

Charlot smiled and greeted her.

The girl raised her head and revealed a pair of big, shining eyes. She smiled sweetly and nodded:

"Well, there aren't many classes today. So, I come and have a look."

"There aren't many girls like you who are kind-hearted now.", Charlot praised. Who wouldn't like such a kind and beautiful female voice?

Vera shook her head shyly and ran her fingers through the hair beside her ears. She said embarrassedly, "How can that be? I didn't do anything..."

"Haha... Are you leaving now?"

"No, I'm going out for lunch. I have to come back in the afternoon.", Vera shook her head. She would volunteer for the whole day every time she came.

Although she was very tired, Vera felt happy when she saw the happy smiles of old timers.

"Well, the director said that the children from West Elementary School are coming to do charity work. It's great that you can help."

"After all...", Charlot shrugged. "I really don't know how to deal with children."

"No problem!"

Vera waved her hand carelessly, and a sweet smile appeared on her face. She had the best way to deal with children.

Charlot nodded and said goodbye to Vera. He went to the changing room to change to his caretaker clothes.

Before the children came, he had many things to do, such as taking the old people's temperature, helping them to clean up their clothes, and supervising their medication.

The caretakers in the nursing home were very hardworking. Fortunately, their wages were not low.

Although the wages of the caretakers in public nursing homes were lower than those in private nursing homes, in this world, the wages in any industry were enough to live a well-off life.

"Cherry, you're here."

"Cherry, have you eaten?"

"Mr. Charlot, can you help me get some medicine?"

On the way, when Charlot passed by, almost all the old people would greet him. Most of them would call him Charley, and some of the more gentlemanly ones would call him Mr. Charlot.

Of course, there were also some random names like doctor Charlot and teacher Charlot.

Charlot would usually respond with a smile.

In fact, these old people had no children, so they were very eager to communicate with the young people.

A handsome young man like Charlot was very popular with the old people.

When he came to the changing area to change his clothes, Charlot's day as a care worker began.

Previously, the reason why he chose such a job was not only because it was the easiest job he could find at that time, but also because it brought him enough happiness.

Although there would be some troubles taking care of these old people would give Charlot peace of mind!

Everyone was old. Seeing the situation of these old people, Charlot couldn't help but think of his future.

So, he would take care of the old people more attentively.

Over time, he became one of the most popular caretakers in this nursing home.

Many elderly people did not listen to others, but as long as Charlot came, they would obediently take their medicine and eat their meals.

"Old John, why didn't you take your medicine and eat your meals on time today?"

Charlot sat next to an old man with wrinkles all over his face. He pretended to be stern as he asked this willful old man who was acting like a child.

The old man's name was John. He had no children and had been living in the nursing home for more than a year.

"Charley, I don't dare to listen to others without you. What if they want to harm me!"

Old John was also a humorous person. He was actually afraid of being alone, so he cherished the short period of time when Charlot accompanied him to eat and take medicine.

"How is that possible!", Charlot smiled and shook his head.

He was also very clear about the reason why old John was getting angry, so he didn't say much.

For the elders, chatting with them and sitting for a while was the greatest comfort.

After ten minutes, the old man finished his meal, obediently took his medicine, and began his afternoon nap. Only then did Charlot begin to go to the next room.

He spent the entire afternoon in this kind of work.

At around two o'clock in the afternoon, the director found Charlot and told him that the students from the West Elementary School were about to arrive. He told him to be ready to receive them.

'They're finally here!'

Charlot was secretly excited.

In fact, what could children do for public welfare? They could only jump around and let the old people have fun.

This was the same arrangement for the afternoon, and Charlot was prepared to tell the old people and children about the real existence of magic at the same time under such an occasion!

"Children, come, this way!"

Vera walked in front with her voice crisp and her smile sweet. Together with the two teachers of the West Elementary School, she led the children into the nursing home.

There was a small square in the nursing home.

At this time, there were seventy or eighty old men and women who had nothing to do in the square.

These old men and women were the people that the elementary school students had to greet for the public good.

They led the children to stand in front of the elders, and the teacher opened his mouth to guide them.

"Children, say hello to grandparents."

"Hello!"

The children were very sensible. They shouted out their greetings together, and then bowed at the same time according to the rehearsals.

Then, the performance began.

Some children sang, some children danced, and two children performed acrobatics for the elders.

Although the performance of the elementary school children was not very outstanding, the elders were still very happy. In their lives in the nursing home, there were very few children.

And the elders all liked children.

"Next, let us welcome the performances of the big brothers and big sisters!"

The director played the role of the host at the side.

The performance of the care workers could be considered a reserved program for the nursing home. When there was nothing else to do, the caretakers would perform for the elderly to keep them in a good mood.

Charlot, who had been rubbing his fists for a long time, was excited.

'It's finally here!'

When it was his turn, the ice elf in his pocket was almost melted by his touch...

"Next, let's invite Charlot to bring us... Uh, real magic?!"

The director's voice changed. After watching it several times, he confirmed that he was not mistaken. It was not a magic trick show, but real magic!

What was a real magic?

Like the director, there were also the audience, whether they were primary school students or the elderly, and even the teachers and other caretakers were confused.

How could there be magic in this world?

Charlot coughed twice, cleared his throat, and strolled onto the stage.

Then...

"Students, grandparents, do you believe that there is magic in this world?"

Charlot looked at the others and found that everyone was looking at him with great interest, which made him excited.

Then, he heard everyone's discussion.

"Magic? It should be magic trick, right?"

"Charley's performance is always so interesting."

"I believe that there must be magic. Even if there isn't, if Charley says there's magic, there must be!", said Old John.

The corner of Charlot's mouth twitched a few times.

From the system, he knew that no one believed him.

That was because his faith point had not changed at all. It was still stable at 0.3.

Compared to the exchange cost of millions, tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of faith points, a mere 0.3 was a little unsightly.

It could only be said that there was a long way to go in gaining the believers of magic!
