Chapter 68 - Realization of Weakness

As Polemos was following behind Gerg, Secat was still having her meeting with the Mercenary Guild Leader. The Guild Leader was a middle aged man with a peppered beard, military style haircut with grey mixed in, dark blue eyes, a medium build, with a claw like scar that ran across his entire right side of his face that wrapped all the way around.

He was leaning back in his chair as held cheek in his fist as he was holding a report in his other hand. After a little while he put the report down as he looked to Secat who was smiling as she was relaxing in a chair across his desk. When he saw her reaction he sighed softly as he spoke in an aged and stoic voice.

"You know you really know how to pick new members to your Burnt Lioness. He's just joined and he's already making some great friends and standing out." Then he took on a more serious look in his eyes. "Would you believe me that early this morning and I mean early, two individuals who I thought I would never have to deal with showed up today."

When Secat heard what the Guild Leader said she frowned as she leaned forward with a deep look in her eyes.

"What do you mean, Drakeraz?"

Drakeraz just smiled as he shook his head and leaned forward and spoke in a deep and serious tone.

"Simple, the damn Grey Keepers showed up and requested that if an individual with a centipede came to the oasis that they were to be notified immediately. Saying it was beyond urgent." After speaking he leaned back into his chair, as he made a glass appear on his desk then grabbed a bottle behind him and started to pour.

When Secat heard who Drakeraz was speaking about she had a look of confusion on her face as frowned. "Why would the Grey Keepers need to be notified about someone who's completely new to the oasis. I mean the scouting reports we gave showed that but what does that have to do with him?"

When Drakeraz heard her question he took a small drink of his liquor as he swirled it around in its glass. Then looked at Secat with an inquiring look as he spoke.

"It has to do with his eyes, plain and simple. That and his bloodline, you really picked up a unique and grim individual Secat. We're lucky that none of the Holy Light Church members are located in any of the three Knowledge Oasis's otherwise they would stop at nothing to kill him. But as far as the Grey Keepers, I honestly don't know what a bunch of crypt keepers would want with him other than he walks with Death."

Secat frowned when she heard his answer as she leaned back as she thought of what they could really want.

'Really, what the hell could a bunch of people who mess with the dead want with Polemos. Not much is actually known about those with purple eyes except rumors and legend, especially in the deserts. He did mention that he was kissed…!!!'

Secat rose to her feet as the chair slid back, as a look of realization spread across her scared yet beautiful face. As she mumbled softly under her breath.

"He wasn't lying when he said that death walks with him." Then a huge smile spread across her face as she started to laugh in a boisterous manner.

"This is perfect, I just recruited an amazing character! The Burnt Lioness is going to increase in strength by a whole lot." Secat was ecstatic when she realized what Polemos could potentially become. But Drakeraz decided to pour a bucket of cold water to douse the flame.

"Yes, you did recruit an amazing person but, he also seems to have a grudge or beef with Gods Blood and also the Golden Army Sentinels." He slowly took another drink out of his glass waiting for her response.

He wasn't disappointed when a downcast expression slowly spread across Secats face as she fell back into her chair and slid further back.

"Why did you have to mention that Drak." Secat responded with a deep sigh as she looked up. "I knew he had beef with Gods Blood but, when did he start a grudge with the Golden Army Sentinels?"

Drakeraz didn't respond as a voice that sounded like thunder rumbling in the distance spoke up.

"Just under five minutes ago probably."

Gerg responded as he entered into the guild leader's office with Polemos following behind with a frown on his face.

Drakeraz just simply raised his glass to greet Gerg while Secat with a fierce look in her eyes glared at Polemos as he continued to frown as he seemed to be in deep thought.

Polemos only looked up when he felt his head start to heat up slightly as he looked up to see Secat glaring at him with her burnt orange-red eyes.

"What, I was only following Gerg when he said he had a mission for me? What did I do wrong this time?" He asked with confusion on his face.

Secat spoke in a deep and no nonsense voice as she asked. "Did you start it or did the Golden Army Sentinels?"

Polemos frowned as he answered.

"The moron thought he could have an easy payday and tried to kill Rose. I simply threatened him by turning him into a vegetable from the neck down but, I decided to be nice and break and then shatter his knees."

"Why would someone from the Golden Army Sentinels do something so beneath them? They monitor the borders of the oasis and mostly do scouting missions?" Drakeraz spoke with a questioning tone.

"He said that Gods Blood put out a mission to kill Rose. And frankly I was only going to ruin them because a friend asked me to but, now." Polemos smiled as he continued. "I'm gonna make sure they regret ever messing with both Rose and I."

Secat smiled as she laughed while Gerg just stood beside Drakeraz while he took another drink from his glass then spoke in an angry tone.

"Those two dumb morons really like tempting me don't they. Also sorry I never introduced myself. I'm Drakeraz, guild leader and the strongest person in this Knowledge Oasis. Welcome to the guild." He smiled as he raised his glass to Polemos as he nodded.

"Pleasure, if you don't mind me asking what strength are you currently at?" Polemos asked with a smile as his hands were behind his back.

Secat only smiled bitterly as Gerg had an amused smile on his face. All while Drakeraz grinned a toothy smile and spoke.

"Magician stage with a solid Mana Core at the ninth stage."

Polemos's eyes went wide when he heard what Drakeraz said as a fervent look spread to his purple eyes. But before he could ask any further Secat spoke up while placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Calm down there Polemos he would kill you with a simple fire spell and I don't mean a Fireball spell."

Polemos looked confused when he heard her but got his answer pretty quickly.

"At your current strength he could burn you to ash with a simple flame or spark. From what I can gather is you have a lot of knowledge or information you need to update yourself on. Plus I could tell by your look when you walked in earlier that you ran into a problem because your strength was insufficient right." Secat spoke with clarity and confidence in her voice.

A look of defeat spread across Polemos's face as he sighed.

"Yeah I did, I got a lot that I need to learn as well as increase my strength as well as Rose's. I was used to walking over everything from my tribe as well. They were beyond weak. Minus Captain and Carl, they were about the only strong ones, well maybe Captain's wife Sella was up there in strength but I never asked." Then he looked to Secat with a calm look in his purple eyes. "Could you help me to increase my strength further? I've already reached the peak of the True Acolyte stage and only need to Mana Wash my brain to complete the full cycle."

When Secat heard his request she was shocked but then a large smile spread across her face. But when Drakeraz and Gerg saw that smile they shuddered slightly but Polemos didn't notice as he was looking into her burnt orange-red eyes.

"Didn't you want a mission from Gerg?" Secat asked.

"Truthfully I did but, after thinking I realized that both my and Rose's strength is insufficient at our current stages. Plus my knowledge when it comes to Mana is extremely pathetic, that and my general lack of knowledge of the desert." Polemos spoke with a clear and honest tone as Secats smile broadened further which made Polemos feel that something was slightly off but he shrugged it off.

"Good choice, it's better to build and increase your strength instead of just rushing in like a Four Horned Bull. And as far as training goes I can help you with that no problem but I have to let you know you'll be working hard."

When Secat finished Polemos felt a shiver run down his spine but he ignored it as he thought he felt a cold breeze, which was weird considering that they were in a building and also in the desert. Drakeraz and Gerg just grinned with amusement on their faces.
