When he was all done he sat behind his desk as he pulled out an old wooden pipe placed in his mouth and lit the end with his thumb. He took a long and deep drag and slowly released all the smoke through his nose as he pulled out a new journal and wrote about everything that happened to give it to Polemos when he woke up.
Carl was about halfway through writing in the journal before he heard a groan come out of Captain. When he saw Captain slowly moving around he took another long drag from his pipe releasing the smoke as he smiled and continued to write in the journal.
When Captain awoke he felt different, he slowly rose to a seated position as he flexed his hand as he had a smile form on his marred face that made him look like a demon. He was able to feel the increase in strength as he was able to feel the element of fire which he was proficient in. As he was lost in the sense of strength his smile deepened further as his eyes had an evil look but, before he lost himself a deep and bloody voice brought him back.
"Don't lose yourself Captain, you may be stronger but don't lose your sense because of it. You're supposed to be the next leader for the tribe." Carl didn't even look up as he continued to write in the journal.
When Captain heard Carl's voice he trembled as he noticed that he was losing himself and becoming drunk on power. He clenched his hands and took a deep breath to calm himself and get his mind right, then looked over to Carl.
"Thank you, this was an unexpected surprise and I forgot how it felt when you reach a new stage, it's been a long time."
Carl just nodded his head as he continued to write in the journal.
When Captain saw that he had a questioning look on his scarred face as he was wondering what he was writing about.
"What are you writing Carl?"
Carl stopped writing for a moment as he took another long drag from his pipe and slowly exhaled the smoke into the air.
"Everything that has happened since the beginning of the Mana Washing. Some things took an unexpected turn especially when the Mana tendrils took on that red black color." Then he looked at, Captain who nodded his head with a look of slight fear in his eyes. "That wasn't normal for the Mana Washing that comes from the Blood of the Beast Array, that black was cold and dark. The only thing I could possibly come up with is that it's because Polemos is a cursed one." Then he continued to write.
"What!?!?"
Captain was surprised as he quickly stood to his feet and finally noticed a bloody and peacefully sleeping Polemos. Then looked back to Carl as he was looking for answers but, unfortunately Carl was just as confused as he was.
"If you're looking for an answer I don't have one. I may be a retired soldier from a Minor Oasis but we never had the information or I wasn't privileged to know the information." Carl spoke as he continued to write. "Hence why I'm writing everything down to explain to Polemos what happened so that he can find the answer himself as I'm pretty sure it'll interest him."
Captain only shook his head then he froze as he just remembered that he hadn't reported to Mesakyle but chuckled to himself.
"Well it seems I should head out gotta come up with an excuse for my tardiness."
"Just tell the fool that you and your wives had too much fun last night and forgot the time." Carl spoke up as he continued to write.
Captains face flushed red slightly, he may be fearless and brutal when he fought but was flustered when Carl mentioned him and his wives indulging themselves. He didn't even respond as he looked at the ground and rubbed the back of his head and headed out the tent. But before he left he thanked Carl and went to see the fool of a tribe leader, Mesakyle.
When Captain left Carl looked up as his gaze went to Polemos.
"You can stop pretending to sleep, Polemos."
Polemos laughed as he slowly rose to a seated position.
"What gave it away?"
Polemos spoke in a slightly cold and deep tone which surprised him a little as noticed his voice change.
"Nothing I guessed. Normally one doesn't awake as quickly as you did after Mana Washing their marrows, so I figured you would awake shortly and I guessed correctly." Carl continued to write in the journal as he answered Polemos.
When Polemos noticed that Carl was writing in a journal with a deep and pondering look on his face as it seemed he was trying to remember something.
Before he could ask what he was writing Carl answered.
"Give me a few more minutes, I'm almost done. I wrote everything that has happened since the start of the Mana Washing as I don't have an answer for what happened." Carl looked at Polemos but noticed a confused look on his face. "The journal will explain."
Polemos only nodded his head as he stared to focus on himself as he was able to feel strength flowing through his veins as a devil-like smile formed on his face. But the smile took on a softer tone as he recalled his meeting with Death.
'Even though we only talked in the beginning and it was brief, I felt at peace.' Polemos looked at his hand as he could still feel the cold yet smooth feeling.
As Polemos was a little lost in thought Carl finished writing in the journal. He closed it as he took a final long drag from his pipe as he leaned back into his chair and slowly exhaled all the smoke into the air. Then grabbed the journal as he tossed it to Polemos.
"Catch."
Polemos couldn't hear Carl when he said catch as he was still lost in his thoughts. He was not able to come back from his thoughts when the journal smacked the side of his head. When he saw the journal he put it away in his ring as he swung his feet to the side of the cot and got to his feet and stretched.
"Not gonna read it now?" Carl asked as Polemos continued to stretch.
"I will, just not yet. Plus I need to get myself cleaned up, then head out and track down Ashern and Alyan. Their time has come. What's in the journal anyway?" Polemos spoke with a determined look in his purple eyes.
"Everything that I could remember when we started your Mana Washing." Carl spoke with a deep voice as he stood up walking up to Polemos. "And after you read it and to save you a trip no I don't have an answer for what happened."
Polemos was confused but remembered that he couldn't recall what happened after he woke up laying on Death's very soft thighs.
Carl patted Polemos's shoulder as he continued to walk towards the side of the tent that held his room as he was mentally drained and exhausted.
"Have fun on the hunt and make sure you come back alive, Polemos." Carl spoke with a heavy and tired voice.
Polemos chuckled in an eerie and slightly evil way.
"Don't worry I'll definitely be back, Alyan isn't even in the tribe and he is definitely needed. I'll just leave Asherns body in the desert or I'll just have Rose eat the bastard when I'm done with the prick." Polemos continued his chuckle as he headed to the entrance of Carl's tent.
Carl only smiled slightly when he heard Polemos's response and went directly to his room before he passed out from mental fatigue.
When Polemos left Carl's tent he wasn't surprised when he saw that the sun started to fall across the horizon.
"Well let's head back to my camp. I'm sure Rose is gonna be upset with me as I didn't make anything for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I'll just make a huge buffet for her when I get back and then after I read what Carl wrote in the journal." Polemos talked as he was heading back in the direction of his camp. "Then in the morning I get to start another hunt and I wonder how my prey will act when they see a Devil has come for them."
Polemos laughed as he spread his arms wide, scaring the members of the tribe who saw him but he didn't care as they wouldn't do anything except scream and run. Tripping over their own feet.
He stopped just before the edge of the tribe as he turned around and noticed that when he came back it would be the final time as a deep and cold voice made an announcement.
"Wait for me Measkyle, as I have a surprise for when I come back! It'll be a surprise not only for you but for everyone in the tribe. Since you've seen me as a curse I'll make sure I'll be remembered as one."
Then he placed his left foot in front of his right foot at a slight angle, raised both hands to the side as he bowed slightly. As an evil and sinister smile formed on his face.
