Chapter 24 - 2.15

"Don't stare at me!" Lea yelled. "Stare at each other, realize you're madly in love and have a passionate make out session!"

"Kailey…" Mason hesitated. What should he respond to such a ridiculous suggestion? He couldn't come up with anything!

While Mason was trying to come up with something to say, Dwyl had been trying to contact Lea again without success. This really wasn't normal! Why couldn't he get a message through that thick skull of hers? Had she suffered brain damage? He needed to perform a body scan right now, to see what was obstructing their communication, but that would take at least five minutes.

"I… I really don't think…" Mason finally spoke, only to be silenced by a hand on his mouth.

Dwyl didn't want to hear the end of that sentence. He had been rejected enough! He didn't need to hear it again.

"Hey! How are you going to kiss him like that?" Lea said indignantly. She wanted to see William's lips on Mason's mouth, not his hand! Wasn't she being clear enough?

"Shut it, you stupid b*tch!" Dwyl erupted. He had enough of her. Even if Mason was so madly in love with Lea that he wouldn't mind following Lea's request, Dwyl would never accept that reason. He had some pride, you know? He wanted Mason's heart, not only his body. He would never accept anything less, and risk being even more heartbroken than he already was. Dwyl deserved to be treated with respect!

Mason who was already angry at William for being silenced, and was trying very hard not to bite William's entire hand of, lost it the moment William insulted Kailey. Yes, Kailey was being very weird, but that didn't mean she was stupid! And even if she was stupid – which Mason couldn't rule out because he hadn't known her for that long – she definitely wasn't a b*tch! How dare a spoiled, mean, egoistical and sadistic tyrant like William Wright accuse someone so lovely?! If anyone was the b*tch it was William!

Mason grabbed William's wrist and threw him of his back onto the floor. He got up from the bed and loomed over him. This would teach him a lesson.

Dwyl's back hit the ground with a loud bang, immediately followed by his pained screams. "Ouch! That f**king hurts!"

Lea regained a little bit of her senses after being insulted and not even ten seconds after that seeing Dwyl flying to the floor. She did something terribly wrong, but her brain was still to scrambled to make up what it was. But that wasn't so important. She can figure it out later. Right now she needed to check up on Dwyl! He was in pain.

"Dwyl! Are you alright?" Lea struggled to get of the bed with both her hands and feet tied.

"Do I look like I'm alright?" Dwyl asked with tears off pain streaming out of his eyes. His entire body was aching, and he was so mad. Mad at Lea, mad at Mason, mad at the entire universe. What did he do to deserve being treated like this? It wasn't his fault he was born this way. It wasn't his fault he developed feelings for his only friend, and it definitely wasn't his fault that his host was playing with his emotions! He didn't do anything wrong, yet it seemed everyone was against him.

"You call this monster Will? How close are you two?" Mason asked getting more distraught by the minute. Seriously, what was the nature of their relationship?

"He is not a monster," Lea defended weakly, letting herself softly slide of the bed.

"Why are you defending him? I taught you were on my side?"

"Stop talking!" William growled. "Both of you are saying things you shouldn't!"

Mason was revealing to William that he wasn't under the influence of hypnotization and indoctrination, while Lea had called him by his real name. Luckily Mason had found an explanation for it or else they would be in big trouble. It was one thing to talk among system and host about their real lives and such while in character (even though technically that wasn't allowed either), but an Author was always completely immersed in their roles and as such they were their characters. You can't let people from the worlds know you don't belong there! Normally you may not even go out of character, but since Dwyl was a special system he could go around that, but letting a world inhabitant know you're a transmigrator or system was the one rule Dwyl couldn't break! The compromised world would be deleted, and the system would be sentenced for their crime by the System and Author Community.

Lea had no idea what Dwyl was talking about. What had she said wrong? She couldn't remember, and she didn't care. Her sight was going blurry, and she felt dizzy. She needed to close her eyes.

Mason on the other hand felt like he had been slapped in the face. He hadn't acted like a civilian should have acted towards someone from the presidential family. That was a huge mistake on his part. If he had just calmly taken care of William's appearance instead of bursting out in rage, he could've made up an excuse about why he was in a compromising position with a tied up Kailey, but now he had attacked William Wright, the son of the president. There was no way Mason could get out of this disaster! But why was William warning him about that? He should've used this opportunity to get some information out of him while Mason still wasn't aware of his screw up.

"I have no idea what you are talking about," Mason said, playing ignorant was the best thing he could do. He needed some time to come up with a plan.

Dwyl slowly sat up, groaning with pain. "Don't pretend. I've known for ages you are one of those genetic abnormalities."

Mason was shocked hearing those words. How was that possible? He never did anything that made him suspicious. Except for today, he had done everything perfectly. There was no way, William could've known. And if he had known before now, why hadn't he busted him? Because he wanted information out of him? But if that was the case, he wouldn't have warned him now. This must be a bluff.

"Young master Wright, I think there is some sort of misunderstanding. I'm a model citizen. How could I be a genetic abnormality?"

"You? A model citizen? Don't make me laugh." William wiped away the tears on his face, trying to pull himself together. "You ignored my orders, and used physical violence on me. If you were a normal citizen, your never would've come further than think about all those actions without punishing yourself severely. And here you are still standing strong after committing a crime."

Mason swallowed. He should run for it. That was his best option right? But first he should kill the bastard. Kill William and run. He was caught anyway. This way he would've at least done something to better the world. The problem was Kailey, he didn't want to do something so violent in front of her eyes. And he had used the prototype on her, which may have some side effects . He couldn't leave her here. If Mason ran he would need to take Kailey with him.

"Okay, so I'm not one of your brainwashed little puppets. What are you going to do about it?" Mason crossed his arms and looked down upon William. He didn't need to pretend anymore.

"I've known for months you're a genetic defect. I haven't told anybody about it. Not even my father. I'm not planning to either." Dwyl didn't dare look Mason in the eye. He was telling the truth. William had known for a long time, and he had never told anybody about it, because he fancied Mason. If he had told the president Mason would've been interrogated and executed. William didn't want that.

"If that is true, why would you do something like that?" Mason didn't want to believe William, but the way William couldn't look him in the eye, made him doubt. He had never seen William so shy before.

Dwyl clenched his fists. "I don't need to tell you that."

"You do realize that since you discovered my identity I've got nothing to lose by killing you, right?" Mason hunched down, and raised William's chin so he could get his message across more clearly.

Dwyl stopped breathing for a second, before swatting away Mason's hand. "You wouldn't do that." Mason might not like him, but he hoped deep down Writer cared enough about him not to kill him.

"What makes you so sure?"

"Because you are a good person. You are nothing like me." It was a bit clichéd, but Dwyl didn't know what else to say. He wasn't sure at all.

Mason clicked his tongue. He should like the tortured look on William's face, but he didn't enjoy it at all. Why did this make him feel like he's the villain? He sighed. He couldn't kill William, not when he didn't know anything. He didn't know how William had figured it out, why he had kept it a secret, and most important of all, he hadn't figured out his relationship with Kailey!

Speaking about Kailey, she had been awfully quiet. Mason finally focused his eyes on her, and saw her unconscious on the ground, breathing heavily and soft whimpers coming out of her mouth. He couldn't believe he had forgotten about her!

At the same time Dwyl got the notification that Lea's body scan was complete.
