Lea was in the body of Kailey King, a twenty-five year old office worker. She was just like any other person in this world. She went to school, graduated with average points and started working for the identity registration department in the government. Kailey's life was simple. It consisted mostly of working and relaxing with her friends.
That changed when Kailey her birthday came and she still hadn't found a life partner. The government wanted everybody to be in a relationship by the time people turned twenty-five. This way they could control the population even more. The reasons the government gave for this was emotional stability and for making sure the population growth didn't decline. So, when Kailey turned twenty-five without having asked for permission to be in a relationship with somebody the government took matters in their own hand. They arranged a match for Kailey based on genetic compatibility and forced her to marry. Kailey didn't have a choice but to accept, refusing was illegal.
This was the beginning of Kailey's trouble, because she really didn't want this. Those thoughts caused her to punish herself, until she convinced herself that this marriage was a blessing. Yesterday Kailey finally met her husband, Liam Lee, on the altar. He wasn't that good-looking, but definitely couldn't be called ugly either. He had thick black hair, dark brown eyes and a broad chin. He wasn't the kind of guy whose face you'd remember if you met him on the streets. Nonetheless, he seemed kind. After they made their vows, they went to their new apartment that the government arranged. They settled in and got to know each other. It went quite well. That is until it was time for their wedding night.
The law stated that newlyweds have one year to conceive a child. During this year they will constantly be checked upon to see if they are making enough efforts to reach this goal. It isn't a crime to not have s*x on the wedding night, but it is highly recommended. Not only will it create a bond between husband and wife, but every time they do the deed, their chances of conceiving will increase. Having a child is the duty of a married couple after all.
Now, even though Kailey didn't dislike this husband of hers, she not even knew him for twenty-four hours! She felt really uncomfortable having to be this intimate with a total stranger, she knew she would have to eventually, but not tonight. So, Kailey refused to have s*x with her husband. Luckily for her Liam didn't want to force her. He was willing to bear the consequences for the time being, but also reminded her that they won't be able to put it off for a long time, because at the end of the week they would get a visit from the Marital Duties department and long term self-punishment wasn't good for their health.
That is the reason Kailey was starving herself. Even though it wasn't illegal to not make love to ones partner on the wedding night, the government deemed it important enough to let people punish themselves every time they didn't go through with it.
So now, Kailey was at work, trying to concentrate on an empty stomach while worrying about doing her duty as a married woman. She wasn't a virgin anymore, but still it was stressful having her partner decided for her and having to live with him for the rest of Kailey's life.
After Lea got all Kailey's memories she was amazed. It was a totally strange feeling inheriting someone's memories! It wasn't like she had thought it to be at all. Lea thought it would be hard to distinguish herself, but it wasn't. Kailey's memories, even though they were clear as day, felt more like a movie playing in her head than actual memories. If she knew it would be like this, maybe she would've taken Winter's memories in the last world.
On the other hand after getting these memories, Lea was even more pissed off because of this world. It was a total tyranny. You can't even choose with who you will spent your entire life with!
[Dwyl: That isn't true. You can choose your partner as long as you find one within the given time.]
[No, no, no. Haven't you paid attention? Don't you see how the LGBT+ community is totally ignored? You can't have relationships with the same sex since that won't produce a child! This society is totally homophobic. Even if you have a so called choice, you aren't free to love just anybody. And even if you manage to find a partner you like, the government still has to give permission, something which is based on genetics. If you and your partner aren't 'compatible' enough according to the government, they'll prohibit the couple from being together.]
[Dwyl: If you put it that way, you're right. It's too bad for normal citizens, but it doesn't concern me. I'm in a body of the ruling elite, I can do whatever I want!]
[As my system it should concern you. I am a normal citizen! Why didn't you put me in an elite body?]
[Dwyl: Because you wanted to be in a body that had nothing to do with the main plot, and since the lives of the elite will be miserable at the end of the story I thought you'd appreciate the safe choice I made for you.]
[If the lives of the elite will be so horrible, why did you put yourself in such a body?]
[Dwyl: Because I can leave the body whenever I want and choose another one.]
[Can I choose another body as well?]
[Dwyl: No. Either it's this one, or none.]
[Does that mean we can leave this world?]
[Dwyl: No! We just got here. I want to have some fun.]
[You know, Dwyl, the more time we spent together, the more I feel like you are the one that gets to do everything it likes, and that I am just a tagalong.]
[Dwyl: …]
[Did I hit the nail on the head?]
[Dwyl: You get to do what you like, too.]
[Oh really? In the last world I wanted to match Moon with another god. That didn't happen. On the other hand, you wanted me to stay and that did happen. You wanted to choose the next world and here we are. When do I get what I want?]
[Dwyl: You will get what you want in this world.]
[Really? So, if I want to divorce from Liam, will I get it?]
[Dwyl: I thought the only thing you wanted in this world was seeing me.]
[Well, that is true, but I was speaking about a hypothetical divorce.]
Honestly, Lea didn't mind being married to Liam at all. She didn't know the guy, but he seemed very considerate. And even Lea didn't find him the most handsome men ever, after the unrealistic beauty standards of the last world, Lea really liked the idea of being together with a normal human. She was sure it wouldn't be that bad giving Liam her own first time. She would be giving it to her husband – a person guaranteed to stay by her side for the rest of her life in this world! She should definitely take advantage of this, and the fact that they were obligated to make love, something which would probably put a lot of people of, actually excited Lea. It was like it came out of her own fantasies! The only thing that was kind of bothersome, was that she needed to get pregnant. Lea felt like she wasn't yet ready for that, and depending on the timeline, she would have to give her child away. Something that came right out of a nightmare!
[Dwyl: Well, if you wanted a divorce in this hypothetical situation, you could just refuse to do your duties, you could think about committing a crime, enduring the punishments and finally turn yourself in to the law enforcers. That way you won't be eligible for marriage anymore, and you'll be automatically divorced.]
[What happens to people who are captured by the police?]
[Dwyl: They will be executed, since they are a danger to society.]
Lea swallowed. Good thing, she didn't want a divorce. Being executed wasn't sexy at all.
[Dwyl: Is there anything else you want to know?]
[Where in the plot are we? I want to know when the revolution will take place.]
[Dwyl: Mason has already infiltrated as a butler in the president's household. The revolution will happen in approximately five years.]
[Five years?!]
Lea's eyes almost flew out of her sockets. That would mean she had to give up her unborn child! She couldn't let that happen!
[Dwyl: You do know that nonexistent child would be Kailey's not yours, right? I don't know what you're fussing about.]
Lea had almost forgotten that Dwyl could read her mind. It was annoying.
[From this point on, I am Kailey. I would be the one carrying the baby in my stomach for nine months, even if the body isn't mine originally.]
[Dwyl: You worry too much. Hosts can't even get children while worldhopping, it would be to cruel to make them bond with children that they'll inevitably have to lose. We systems care about the mental wellbeing of our hosts.]
[Oh, that's a relief. I never understood how some hosts in quick transmigration stories where perfectly fine after having raised countless of children and always having to leave them behind. They never think about them either, I mean how could you so easily forget them? The stories where they can't have children even in ABO, or ger worlds, are way more assuring.]
[Dwyl: Yeah, yeah. Can you stop nagging? I gave you all the information you need, Kailey has work to do and I'm getting bored with this conversation. I'll see you soon!]
Lea was long not finished with her lecture, but Dwyl suddenly cut off their nice talk. It was then that she realized she was still hungry and thirsty! Not only that, but she still had to fill in hundreds of files before she could go home! This was going to be a long and exhausting day, but she had to endure. Tonight she would make sure to have a lot of fun with Liam!
