Ruth stood on the deck of the ship as they sailed toward East. She had a smile on her face and a warmth in her chest. She looked at the ring in her hand, remembering her conversation with Chief Yaqub.
She didn't know when they would meet again or if they would ever meet, but she was grateful that destiny gave her a chance to meet another person who shared a connection with her father.
"You look quite happy. Is there something I have missed?" She looked up to see Zoe's sharp yellow eyes staring at her in awe.
Ruth's smile widened as she showed that ring to Zoe. She placed her elbows on the railings and watched the different shapes of clouds spread in the sky.
Zoe observed that ring curiously. "Isn't it too big to even wear in a thumb? Did you buy it at the market or something?"
"No Zoe. Chief Yaqub gifted it to me."
"Really?"
"Hmm. Isn't it funny how someone stranger whom we many not meet again seems to be closer to us than the ones who share a closer relationship with us?"
