Ruth and Edwin stood on the deck of the ship which was ready to leave at the port of Vincardine. They were overwhelmed by the number of people that had gathered to see them off.
The O'Dell guards had to create a human chain to contain the large crowd. Mira stood beside Ida, who had her arm around her shoulders as she cried silently. She had tried every way of convincing her husband to either take her with him or not go at all, but Kevin denied both of her requests.
He even got upset with her when she pushed it too far. The husband and wife were not on speaking terms for the past three days. Mira hoped against hope that Kevin would understand her and chose one of the options she had given him.
Unfortunately, he didn't.
But at the time of bidding goodbye, Kevin gathered her in his arms and kissed her tenderly on the lips. Mira was more than just shocked. Unlike Rees, Kevin was a shy man who was not comfortable with intimacy in public.
