"Is it really your birthday today?"
That question from Theodora surprised both of them. But Ruth maintained a straight face.
"Yes, it is!" She replied, not breaking eye contact with her.
Theodora's immaculately carved brow arched. "And who told you that? Your dear mother?"
Ruth could hear the change in Theodora's tone, yet she nodded her head calmly.
"And she didn't bother to mention who your father was?"
Ruth's jaw ticked. She took a step closer to Theodora, intimidating her. But the woman was too strong-willed than Ruth thought. She refused to cower under Ruth's piercing gaze.
"You seem quite interested in knowing my father, Lady Theodora. Don't worry he was no one who you care about."
It took every ounce of control in Ruth to not spill out the truth just yet.
Theodora's greenish-hazel eyes flashed in anger.
