Edwin inhaled deeply the air she carried with her. The fragrance was intense as she had just stepped out of the shower.
"You smell divine!" He whispered, rubbing his nose along the length of her jaw.
Ruth giggled. She cupped his face with her right hand and rose on her tip-toes. She kissed him softly on the lips before whispering with gratitude.
"Thank you very much, Edwin! Not for the expensive gifts but for your thoughtfulness. I actually didn't have anything appropriate to wear for the occasion."
Edwin tucked the wet strand of her hair behind her ear, smiling down at her.
"I am sorry!"
Ruth tilted her head in confusion.
"But why?"
Edwin sighed before pulling her closer. "Every woman wanted to be with me for my fortune. A few even got more expensive gifts than these. Everyone envied the woman who would share my life and my money because she was supposed to be the queen sitting on the golden throne with invaluable gems and diamonds decorating her from head to toe."
