After more than twenty-four hours, Ruth's carriage slowed down. Eloise rubbed her sleep-deprived eyes before peeking out of the window to see rows of mountains surrounding a grassland where a few trees stood for decades.
Eloise tried to remember if she had been to this place before, but no memory came up. Ruth had still not told where they were heading to. She was distracted by Ruth's voice.
"Would you like to accompany me, Lady Eloise?"
Eloise was confused, yet she nodded softly. "If you want."
Ruth gestured for her to get down the carriage. She told the coachman to wait for them there.
Eloise looked around the place that carried a weird sombreness. The tall and sturdy mountains did nothing to stop the grey clouds from gathering in the sky, adding to the loneliness of the place.
The few trees around were not enough to make the place feel lively, and the absence of any sounds of animals or birds rose its creepiness.
